Just toying with the idea of selling off my new G3 (complete set with charger, cables, and 32MB CF).

It's only 6 months old, and I have used it mainly about 3 times :

first time when I just bought it and went to test it out,

2nd time when I went overseas for 1 week, but it was a business trip, so only used it on the 1st day of the trip,

3rd time was in Tioman where I shot maybe 100 photos ( on the ground, not underwater ).

In Singapore I don't use it since I don't fancy walking around in the hot humid Singapore weather. I however did use it a couple of times at home to take snapshots of my nephews and nieces.

It's in excellent++ condition and I've had a LCD protector pasted on it's LCD panel so it is protected. I've also have a lens adaptor and UV filter attached, so the lens is also well protected.

How much do you think this is worth ? I'm not really in a hurry to sell it, but if there's a reasonable offer, why not ?

Reason for selling : I've always wanted a 5MP or higher camera, and only bought the G3 because it was the best Canon had 6 months ago. Yes, I'm considering the new G5 instead :)

honestly, selling away your g3 to get a g5 isn't worth the while. the only thing that has changed for the g5 is the extra megapixel and the color of the body (g5's black)

my suggestion to you is to keep the camera, take the price difference between a brand new g5 and the money you'll get by selling off the g3, should be at least $300+, get a speedlight (420ex) and play around with flash photography. you'll be happier this way. :vhappy:

between 4mp and 5mp, you can't tell the difference even for 8r prints. the extra megapixel is something nice to have but, not a necessity.

Thanks for the advice, but

1. I'm not young anymore
2. I have plenty of photography experience already. I bought my first SLR in 1992, and have already shot thousands ( yes, thousands ) of rolls of film before moving to digital 6 months ago.

The reason is I want higher resolution is that many photographic opportunities comes only once in a lifetime. If I went to visit, say, London or Madrid, it will unlikely that I will ever visit them a second time. So I want my photos to be the best possible. Composition, color and textures and so on are aspects that I can do to the best of my abilities, but resolution is something that only my camera can do, and I want it to be as high as possible. This is the reason why people use good lenses and shoot Velvia or at least 100 ISO film instead of 400 : to get the best technical quality that one can afford.

I don't really have a RP. Why not make me an offer ?

Thanks for the advice. I already have a 380EX which is adequate for my purposes. I've explained why I want a G5 in another post, but heck, I don't want it that badly :) It's also OK with me to wait another 9 months or so for Canon to release it's G6 :)

Right now I'm trying to find more info about the G5, and if there is any comparative reviews on the G3 vs G5. If you know any, let me know.

Thanks.

there'll be plenty of new camera models coming up in this year's photokina

master handling yr current G3 first :D
