Hello,

I am an exchange student in Singapore. Recently i find out that the service attitude of some camera shops in Chinatown are so terrible!!!!!!

Today i stepped into one shop to look around, the guy pushed me out with some dirty words like "**** off" because i didn't want to buy anything. I think that is really scandalous in a civilized country like Singapore.

Anyone knows why they are so wicked?

I don't know.. maybe that's how they do business.. scare the sh** out of people to make sure they buy something.. just ignore them.. you have a right to look at what they are selling.. but if they being physical (like pushing you), then you should at least make a police report.. that's just too much..

Welcome to Singapore, I have lived here all my life and I have never understood why the service is so bad. Even the reputable stores have some salesperson giving you attitude as well. The standard is just not there.

I guess that guy goes overboard. But we should not generalize.. these kind of stores makes a good country like singapore look bad. Imagine if they would do that to tourists. Can you post the name of the store, so fellow CS'ers would avoid those kind of shops.

Actually i have experienced this kind of attitude in two shops, i will be back to Chinatown someday to note their names

been around camera shops in chinatown... just to gauge their pricing, the staff would usually give me a look that's like saying "i wanted to show you some attitude, but i can't...", so i would just ignore it and walk away after asking prices for some lenses am planning to get in the future, never experienced being "vulgarized" vocally... but yeah, please note down the store's name and LOC, would pay them a visit...:bsmilie:

Its a cruel world...like it or not...u can make a police report for the vulgarity that was said to u....u can press charges...

i've been to some of the shops there and played with some of their gear and not been treated the way you were treated...Maybe different shop...the shopkeepers entertained my requests to look and touch their wares....but this could be due to my tattoos...:bsmilie:

I've thought it over, i think maybe that is due to the fact i spoke Chinese to these guys, so maybe they thought i was just a tourist who can't do anything to them..........

that's interesting.. why? because usually these terrible sales people would pamper tourists and treat them nicely, because they know tourists usually have fat wallet..

maybe just your unlucky day..

but i think vulgarities and getting physical are way too overboard and you should at least inform the police, if not make a report.. i think it is just too disgusting the way they behave if what you said is true..

You can report it to CASE. They arachne ones who regulate our retail services, though I'm not sure how effective it can be. You can also report to police.

The point is to make life difficult for this shop.

To make Yr statement more credible, go bk to tat shop and do a hidden video recording. So if the shop treats u the same way again, u can submit yr recording to police and CASE. Best if u can upload to YouTube

Thanks for your advice, actually i made complaint to www.visitsingapore.com yesterday and haven't had response yet. The main problem is that i don't have any proof.........

There are all kinds of people in this world. So don't be too surprise but recover from your surprise and move on. At least now you know which shops to avoid. By the way, 1% of a sample size doesn't always determine the rest of the 99%. Although an impression is nevertheless formed. I have been to US, Australia and other supposedly civilized nations but I can tell you not every one of them are civilized in all their ways, all the time. But so what???

i dunno.. first must determine if TS is a 问神.

if you 问 and no buy, i can see where the conversation will be heading with a hot headed salesman.

So customers now cannot ask for more info about the product and consider before buying? It's not reasonable if you have to buy once you ask right?

I didn't ask too much but just "how much is it" so i am definitely not a "问神"

PS: anyone knows how to edit my thread, i went back to Chinatown today and noted their names.

You cannot edit in consumer corner, just add another post.

Look at past threads to find out who are the more reputable shops. Support them but don't abuse them, so that they can continue with their good customer service.

well there r signs of whether the person merely ask song only or wants to buy. In marketing we call it MAN. Man with means, with authority or with needs. Whether you can ask more or not os really not up to me, it takes 2 hands to clap or snap. If the bugger thinks you ask song only the conversation will evaporate quickly. But let others say. Try the safer shops then the sharks
