As there are no audio sections in these forums, I hope it is alright to post my question on XLR connection here. After all it is for the audio capture part of a video
I have a pair of XLR connectors and I have ordered some XLR cables which will not be delivered until week after next. I can just pop down to Sim Lim or an audio specialist to get a short XLR cable to test my equipment but I have a noob question lingering in my mind since I am no audio or electrical expert.
Since the XLR is 3-pin, can I use a normal 3-core power cable (the ones we connect our 3-pin plugs to AC sockets) and temporarily solder them to the XLR connectors? I just want to hook up my audio equipment to test the connection and not to do any recording. I know there are a lot of technical stuff like cross-linking, shielding, the resistance rating (ohms), etc. I just want to check whether my mic is working with audio signals going into my recorder. Will doing this damage my audio equipment?
I know I could have just bought some XLR cables locally but that was just not what I did :dunno:
