hi doom102938, if you think 70-300 is BIG.... then you should try carry the 70-200mm during whole trip of tour... haha :)
anyway, used to bring 70-200mm for tour, but nowadays, mostly stick to 17-35mm and 18-200mm.... much more managable and you get to enjoy the trip more...
occasionally i do bring the fisheye for fun shots....
 

That's a very good point. What about the temperaure affecting the life span of the battery? Any issues there?

Just came back from Hokkaido last wk. My pns battery flat after just about 3-4 photos altho on full charged. My dSLR has no such problems. I do not have to charge the dSLR battery every day :thumbsup:. Of course bring your spare, just in case.

Biggest problem is how to protect your camera when shooting in snow! Tried taking thru ziploc bag but found IQ sufferred:confused:. In the end just gungho and shoot away. So far, camera still working:bsmilie:.
