Tamron introduces USD... UltraSonic Silent Drive....

For your example, i dont think the Tokina AT-X 124 Pro DX II uses the silent motor. I own 1, and its definitely not silent at all. The older version without motor focus faster and quieter than the DX II on my D300.

The old version (mark I) don't have built in motor (BIM), the motor depend on your SLR body.

The new version (mark II) has BIM.
I haven't compared between the mark I and mark II, but when I tried the mark II version it's quite silent

Yup, but i dont think it's using the silent motor for the new version. At least for mine. IMO, if using D90 and above, better to get the non motor version. It's slightly faster also.

The first thing that struck my mind is the weird name "USD" haha, perhaps they will have a localized "SGD" version... something like "Super Gyro-Drive" or something :bsmilie:

Anyway I hope the USD will be implemented onto their top-glasses like 17-50 VC, 28-75, and 70-200. ;)

Or AUD - Awesome Ultrasonic Drive. :bsmilie:

But yes, high time that Tamron have an ultrasonic motor of their own but actually even without it, it's still pretty fast in AF speed and quiet too.

any ideas on the pricing of it?

It's just announced. Gotta give them more time!

i think i saw it in brunei cannot really recall which shop so went online and check if there is such a model, btw its around $580-595 here.
