nice! sharp!
u managed to get it from SG?
didn't realize that it had hit the local stores already.

care to post any 200mm F2.8 pic unprocessed?

anyway, how much did u get it for?

The Mynah picture that I posted on post #19 of this thread was shot at 200mm F2.8. As mentioned in that post, it is unprocessed except for re-sizing.

I rarely ever shoot wide open when I can. I don't have another 200mm F2.8 photograph with me yet, but here's another one shot at 200mm F3.2. It's just 1/3 stop difference.

As usual, no PP was done except for resizing in LR, and cropping to 100% in PS.

Otherwise images are straight out of my Nikon D40. Exif data should be intact.

Lastly I bought this lens for S$1300 w/GST, cash.

No idea... Never tried the Sigma before (I don't really like Sigma lenses because of the EX coating).

The IQ for the Tamron is great by my standards... It's just the focusing speed that is its achilles heel. I've tried a Canon 70-200mm F2.8L, and the Tamron simply cannot match that kind of speed.

For comparison, it focuses at roughly the same speed as the Nikkor 18-70mm outdoors and the Nikkor 18-55mm II indoors. You have to know where to aim your AF point though. I am not sure whether the camera body that I'm using (D40) will have an effect on the AF speed.

I bought this from OP, and as mentioned in post #22 I got it last week.

I was at OP yesterday and they had stock for the Nikon and Canon mounts. For the other stores that CS-ers frequent, I think you have to ask them to order for you. I have never seen an Alpha mount before though.

Any reputable online website to recommend to get this lens ?

Because of the increasing number of D-SLRs with full-frame sensors, Tamron is upgrading several of their multi-platform lenses to the Digitally Integrated standard. The most recent model, the 70-200mm f/2.8 Di, is optimized for D-SLRs regardless of the sensor size but also provides outstanding results with 35mm SLRs. This zoom has benefited from several improvements, including closer focusing ability and a focus “clutch” that allows for quickly switching from AF to MF. Extensive use of multiple layers of “Internal Surface Coatings” (plus a large hood) help to minimize flare from a highly reflective digital sensor and from external light sources.

Here is a shot from my Tammy, it's 140 mm and F2.8

Hi bearbrick,

I totally agree wif u leh. I was about to buy the 150-500sigma but after viewing 4 copies of it, all had so much dust in the inner elements (some had so much it looked like a thumbprint of dust/ or a mini milky way) that I decided not to buy. So, I decided to downsize to a 70-200 f2.8 or Canon 70-200 f4 instead.

I did a check of street prices for the tamron 70-200 f2.8 and found prices in SGD should be about $1000 in US and in HK, but in Singapore, shops are selling about $1200 to $1300, depending on warranty- very much inflated which I agree wif u.

Some bros suggest buying from B&H, some from Tin cheung. Where do u suggest we buy from if we do internet orders? I'm not so worried about getting poor, unsharp copies bcos Tamron lenses so far have not disappointed me as compared to the high standard deviation of canon lenses that I've tried.

Hope to get a online retailer that even pay for your return mail should there be any defect in their goods, as mentioned by a fellow CSer bro who bought via B&H. Any HK online retailer who also provides such good service?

Many thanks in advance.

I once let go of my AF-D 80-200 f/2.8 due to slight back focusing, poor AF ring quality and soft at 80mm and 200mm at f/2.8.
Now, I think Nikkor optics still :thumbsup:

Bro, in your opinion, how far behind is this Tamron compared to the Nikon lens? Was contemplating between this Tammy and the Nikon ... Very tempted to get this Tammy cos of the macro capability and of course, taking into account that it can't overtake a dedicate macro lens. Thanks ... :)

What is the price difference between the tamron and nikon same range?

Just posted! Our new lens review of Tamron's latest baby, the SP AF 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro. In the third of our epic four-part series of telezoom reviews, we take a look through the viewfinder using a lens said to inherit its 'product concept' from Tamron's highly regarded 28-75mm F2.8. So does this young pretender really inherit the same compelling mixture of fine optics at a bargain price, and provide a challenge to the camera manufacturers' own fast telephoto zooms?
