Hi Guys,

Most probably will be going down to Syracuse next month. First time travelling to the states, just want to check out something.

1) 7D NP400 Charger, can it be used down there? If not, where to buy the adaptor?
2) Planning to bring 7D with 17-35 and light tripod enough?
3) Is there a bag that can contain DSLR and laptop? How much it costS?

1) u need a correct plug, u can get a adaptor...
2) well... i think a 17-50mm would be great, coupled with a 70-200mm, maybe a 135 also good.
3) computrekker? depends how big is your laptop..

for me, i always bring my 17-35, 50, 135 & beercan on my overseas trip. sometimes T90 macro along. very seldom my tripod. as for adaptor, yes, for sure you need one. if i remember correctly, states plugs are using double-flat pin. bag wise, as suggested by bro DCA. alternatively SR 500aw sling bag if change lens often.

1. If I'm not wrong the charger is multi voltage, you just need a way to plug the round plug into US two pin flat socket, or get the two pin flag socket wire and you don't need any adapter at all. If the charger is not multi voltage and you are staying in a hotel most will have the multi voltage and multi socket in the bathroom for shaver, good enough for charger as well. Just read carefully the instructions from the hotel and plug correctly. You can always check with them first if you have decided where to stay.

2. Lens...depends on your shooting style. Just ask yourself, is the 17-35 range good enough for your shooting need while in Singapore ?

Tripod, needed if you intend to shoot night scene, even then there are ways around it as well. Tripod needed as well if you intent to take self shot if there is no one else to help you. Again depend if you going on a tour or on your own ? If on a tour most will have limited time frame and setting up a tripod takes time. My last tour trip, did bring along the tripod but never use it.

3. I bought one from CP, the Tenba PD-15C for around $150 last September during their sale. This bag can fit a 15" screen laptop without problem however I think is too big if you only bringing 1 lens. 1) Just get the adaptor as the charger is multivoltage, US uses 2 flat pin type.

2) Depending on what you shoot. I won't bring a tripod though. I would rather bring one wide angle and one normal to mid tele.

3) I won't bother with Laptop either as if you are travelling, you want to be out all day and sleep at night, so not having a lot of time looking at the images anyway. I would bring a portable harddrive with me. You won't be carry your laptop with you when you are out on the street anyway, so it is a bit pointless.

Anyway, I am just come back from my 6 weeks holiday to Peru, US and Canada, here is what I bring with me.

7D, Sigma 18-50 f2.8, Rokkor 7.5mm f4 fisheye, Minolta 75-300 and Dimage A1 for backup, Batteries, CF cards and Compactdrive Portable Storage + charger. All fitted in a small Lowepro Mini Trekker nicely.

Only about 1 or 2 occasions I really need to use tripod. I am using Arca Swiss mount plate and to be entirely honest, it is just as easy to borrow a tripod from someone else. If you want to a bit Kiasu, then bring 1 Arca Swiss Plate and 1 Manfrotto QR plate. You will guarantee someone will have either one of those head.

Tips: if you are using Arca Swiss type plate... just spot those Carbon Fibre Tripod, it is almost guarantee they are using Arca Swiss type plate. I have no problem using someone else tripod if you ask nicely and use it quickly of course.
