WIth the release of HX5V sony... which does 1080 video (50i i think??) .. and 10X while recording (not sure zoom motor audible or not) ... i think the bridge btw a camcorder and still camera once again getting nearer..

I may want to get one of these cameras and if its really perform as close as a camcorder, I dont mind ditching mine for convenient sake...

i know i know, before anyone say, i know until now its still not as good or close to a dedicated camcorder due to a few obvious reason.. but many user may not care .. haha

1080i and 1080p are miles apart.

sorry to disappoint you, but they're nowhere close to the camcorders..

It‘s more about ergonomics than what the camera "can" do. Speaking of still cameras, how about EOS 550D for some indie films?

is it that bad? .... we seen how Panasonic TZ7 at 720P perform.. and think its really good enough for many "dad & mom" user... and I dont think many can tell the diff btw these still PnS final video versus a simple HD camcorder ...

and ofcos by camcorder.. i mean those sub $1500 range.. not of those more pro than that ...

btw the HX5v does 1080P in MP4 format... only if u use AVCHD mode it will be at 1080i

If ergonomics is the reason ppl buy camcorders.. than ppl getting the Xacti "Gun" type one are the worst way to hold a camera (for me at least...) haha. . anyway I am referring to the latest PnS camera that does AVCHD video at 1080 ... + Stereo .. + able to zoom ... these are featuers we dont hear a while ago.

well, if you're satisfied with TZ7 then you can probably be satisfied with the sony too. :)

it really depends on one's expectations.

haha i guess so

I am actually using a TM300 ... which is nice... esp when i display it on a 1080P TV ... but the need to switch from my dslr to camcorder is really getting me lazy esp going to places where i want to travel light... so thinking to get a hybrid type of camera that does moderately well on both ..

chk out youtube and saw some user's video... it does not look too bad so far
