A journalistic video i rendered and edited after 4 hrs, immediately after shooting.

It is about polytechnic students asking for petitions to lower their transport fares in Bugis.

Shot on a Panasonic HDC-SD100 3CMOS 1/6 inch sensor AVCHD camcorder, HA (2nd highest quality) mode. No colour correction was done due to time constraints. Used a stereo 3.5 mm ATR25 mic for natural sound and the yet again budget ATR55 shotgun for interview sound capture. Video footage was transcoded from 1920 x 1080 HD progressive 25 fps to 720p HDV for editing.

I didn't like the predominant use of the quick fades.

The piece needs to be differentiated between an interview vs a news piece, because there's seems to be too much emphasis on the first interviewee. Splicing up the scenes with cuts to the students going about their business seems a little lengthy, especially without any interesting events. Off hand i think there were too many long shots of that, instead of some close ups, sound bites of them doing the work. You could have cut it with the interviewer reframing the situation to the viewer or a vo. It doesn't have to be sequential, just pick up those shots later. Also the over the shoulder shots cut the interviewer's face in half. The lazy cameraman should've lifted the camera higher. And no side profile then pan to another person, unless it's done faster.

Appreciate your various suggestions and criticism. But some of which you have stated are rather out of my reach.

Regarding capturing the sound-bites, i would have needed to go very close to the action, which would certain discourage and scare the public from participating in the petition.

Regarding cutting half the interviewer's face away, a major reason i see is due to the height difference of the interviewer (which we cannot change at this point of time) and the interviewed, and certainly i don't think being lazy is part of the issue.

Thanks for your comments.

I think the first interview was very very long and could put people to sleep. An interview of that duration would also be better conducted in a sit-down environment where its more comfortable and easier for the interviewee to express him/herself.

The interviews could be cut short by taking just important lines, rather than a full Q&A kind of interview. This will allow you to substantiate the views with more interviewees, rather than the expressing the voices of a rare few individuals.
