Sonya, a beautiful Brazilian German mix model, taken at an Modelinn organized shoot few weeks ago when I was back in SG for the weekend.

Too bad I was too lazy to bring all the gears, and only had my little ML E-PL2 with me, amongst all the shooters, I was of course the least professional-looking guy, literally a GWC. Ivan said I looked just like a tourist!

Some of you might not like the quality of images, in low light under the shade, I was using ISO400 and the quality became bad. And quite a lot of them I purposely over-exposed majority or part of the background, just to make the images cleaner. And some of you might hate the composition with quite a lot of the photos (in my flickr) not even looking at the camera or walking out of the frame... But heck! I like them!

Model: Sonya
Location: Singapore
Photographer: Barry Tse

Thanks for viewing!

Wow really nice, I love your composition and framing. You did very well with the EPL2.

Can you share which lens you use?

Thanks for liking these photos.

Yeah, they were taken with my E-PL2, I only have one lens with this camera: Panasonics' 20mm F1.7, I use it mainly for snapshots and some quick photos of products or images in my course of work, but realized in studio situation and good lighting condition this lens and camera work almost as good as any DSLR. I was planning to join a studio session but got cancelled last minute and changed to this outdoor shoot, and because of not having any lighting equipment to use as fill-lit, I had to push the ISO higher, so the quality of image output was a bit disappointing. But in most cases, this camera is a good buy.

Cheers,
Barry

Nice pics bro...

Any camera can take good pictures though the outcome depends greatly on how the photographer controls his hear. You are too humble to say that they pictures do not turn out well. You among all people are being held at high esteem by many others :)

Great pictures I must say...

Cheers,

Dan

Thank you Dan!

There are always good photographers I look up to, so I am forever trying to improve and pick up new tricks here and there... Hope to have more chance shooting back in Singapore this year.

Cheers,
Barry

I love the shots... much better than your studio series with the other model.
My fav is #4, love the overexposed background.

It is most interesting to see the results of your shoot. Nicely done

Yes. I was. We were talking about "The Grandmaster" movie if you can recall.....

Like #2 and #3.... :) magazine quality...

I like the first one... i was on this session myself and was having trouble metering the sky, was too focused in metering the model instead.

Im no pro and no offense but for the rest, the framing just doesnt work for me but then again, each to his own and you shoot to please yourself and not others anyway :)

good job!

There are only 4 of us... so, you are one of the other two... ha ha!

Yeah, appreciation of beauty is very subjective, certain framing approaches may work for one but not for the others. I must say the framing perspectives I chose this time were mostly unconventional. The reason? Partially because of the prime lens which is only about 40mm in full-frame terms, and compared to the longer zoom lens of what you guys use, I need to stay away consciously to avoid blocking others most of the time. Hence, had to choose perspectives different from most of others.

Happy shooting in 2013! Not sure when would I have the chance to shoot in Singapore again this year!

Cheers,
Barry

i was the short guy using a sony and that time i was using a 90mm tamron so my distance also kinda restricted somehow. I can only manage to get in a few headshots and close ups most of the time especially for the 2nd set in the corner at the roof where she was wearing black but for full body i have to stand quite far just to nail it like in the 1st, 3rd and last set.

I also shoot using a 50mm prime sometimes and a technique i can share is that normally if i cant get a full body, i go for half body or head shots instead just to compensate for a decent shot, go around the model, angle a bit and just keep shooting then later on pp just crop on the shots that you think is a keeper. Sometimes its better to go use a prime as it forces you to think on your composition. :)

Thanks bro for the tips!

Were you the guy who was also running around in the back trying to find angles? I think I know. Happy shooting!
