Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 or 55mm F1.8?

i have the 28/f2, it's sharp and fast enough for most of my needs. if you want slightly more tele, turn on the crop mode and you get approx 42mm

35mm. U still can crop abit if u need tighter shot

You don't really buy a lens solely based on the "specs", you have to know what you can do with it.

For the discussion of focal length, 35mm and 55mm each has its own way of shooting. With your A7rii, you can even "cheat" quite a bit with cropping so that means with 35mm you can actually crop down to 50mm-ish while maintaining good enough resolution, and for 55mm and so on.

As for f stop, well you can easily bump up your ISO for the 1+ stop of light, no biggie I think.

If you shoot RAW, you might wanna stay away from FE28 as the distortion is quite bad and hard to correct. I have the lens to pair with my A7ii, mainly for lazy time and for people to help take photo of me... But not to say it's a bad lens, it's superb for what I've paid for it.

If you're not in urgent to get the lens or leaning more towards a 50mm, wait for the upcoming FE lenses. Even Samyang is coming up with a 50mm f1.4 and the price will most probably be very reasonable.

Both lenses can be used for your type of photography. I have been using the FE55 for over 2 years now and it is one of the best lenses I have come across. It is my main walkabout lens with my A7R2. I have no experience with the 35 f2.8 as I have the 35mm Summilux-Asph with my M240. The A7R2+FE55 combination has overshadowed my M240 with my Leica lenses! No wonder it is also know as the mini-Otus. Ultimately, only you can decide which FL works best for you. Here are a couple of links to some of my images with the FE55,

Many of them were captured with the FE55. For some unknown reasons some of the exif data do not show up.

Hi

Wonderful opinions shared by many users and expert. I am surprised that the poster is not sure what he wants. Everyone shoots differently and 35 mm and 55 mm has so much differences that it should be a no brainer. If u are asking about the different 35mm available, or the diff 50ish FF available I can understand but between these 2?? anyway good luck choosing.
