Been playing with the phone for about 5 months, it’s an excellent phone with a 13mp camera. As a photographer for 7 years, I am giving this camera phone a small review for just the camera.

Shot at Munich, Germany. Daylight performance is pretty decent. Unedited.

Critic:

Speed: Is pretty fast as processing for multi-shot. The shutter-lag is sometimes annoying. Start-up of the camera is also quite slow.

Quality: Daylight performance is pretty decent, high-ISO night shot is VERY DISAPPOINTING! I was comparing next to my friend’s iPhone 3s, and the donkey-years-old iPhone 3 camera performs so much better than my Sony Xperia Z in low light.

Focus: Very disappointing as well. I am using the native camera app. I knew for sure that the phone managed to macro pretty well, but the selective focus is the worst I’ve ever used. I need a number of trials (maybe 3 to 8 times) to get a macro focus done correctly, no matter how hard I tried as high contrast areas, bright areas, macro just sucks. Sometimes, shooting macro in ‘normal mode’ works better than the ‘auto’ mode or ‘macro’ mode.
Color: Bad. The moment you ‘instagram’ it you can straight away tell the poor dynamic range and massive noise.

Disclaimer, the above review was written in the very personal view, nothing in serious comparison with other camera phones on the market.
