The new PJ790V is essentially the NX30 - and a little more!
What's new:-

Wifi enabled
XLR hotshoe interface (same as VG900, A99) Great for NX30 owners!
MP4 recording mode (only 720p)
5.1 stereo zoom mic now placed like the NX30 moved one cm to the side
brighter projector at 35 lumens
and get this: projector can project from HDMI devices

Why do you say it's great for NX30 owners? It's not so great for me if it has more features and cost less :-) But then again when I bought the NX30, the PJ760 was only about $300 cheaper without the XLR. If the PJ790 retain the same price as PJ760, I guess NX30 price should drop. This is not so great for me because I just got mine last Christmas :-(

It's great because you already have the XLR attachment. Don't have to pay full price for a second compatible camera.

Hi bro, so you finally decided and bought the NX30 ? How is it ?

Sorry a bit confused here. Are you trying to say that it is better to buy the PJ790V than the NX30 ?

Thanks

What Bamboo is saying is that if you need a second cam, you can buy the PJ970 (presumably at a cheaper price than the NX30) and share the XLR module from the NX30.

Yes I finally got it just after Christmas from CP. I finally did it because it came with an extra heavy duty battery and other DBS year-end credit card promo. It works out to be a very good price for me. If I discount the freebies, the price is close or lower than getting the PJ760 :-)

I am not very impressed with the so called super stabilizer though. Either the stabilizer in the unit did not work properly or my old hands wobble more than what the gyroscope can compensate :-) I say that comparing to a Sony VX1000 I owned many many years back. My opinion is that the VX1000 is more stable than the NX30. Most likely due to its form factor and Zoom rocker. I don't like the zoom rocker of the NX30 because it is the same as those built into consumer video cams.

On the move (you got to move like a ninja) NX30 is slightly better with the stabilizer on active. Maybe I need time to know it better. Overall NX30 is value for money. I'd say no regrets for this price although I'd be happier with an NX70 if not for the its zoom rocker and focusing issues.

Astrocom. You can check if the stabiliser is working properly or not by looking at the lens element and rotating your wrist (the one holding the camera) at the same time. The lens should be rotating to compensate for the motion. Over the years I have owned VX1000, VX2000, PD150, PD170, none are as good as the NX30 in terms of stability or even low-light sensitivity. I also have the NX70 and I find myself using less of that because I find the NX30 little control dial to be more intuitive and ergonomic than all the buttons of NX70 scattered all over the place. Also the NX30 is one stop more sensitive than the NX70.

Bamboopictures, the lens is floating. I don't mean it is not working just that maybe I expect it to be better or rather I have still have to get to grips with handling it better. I have yet to really bring it out for a full spin. Also my gripe is personal given that I have never had any experience with a good stabiliser and rightly so I should not expect it to perform like a pro cam on a pro stabilizer handled by a pro like in the hollywood movies :-)

It is good to know that NX30 is better in many aspects base on your experience with the other cams. The NX30 is a good buy given its performance/price ratio.

Hi anyone knows what is the difference between the sony hdr pj790v compared to pj790ve?. Thanks
