Hi Guys,

Rashkae
Thanks for your offer of help. When I make my mind up what to buy and spend some time in Singapore I contact you for help.

As regards "caucasian inflation" The best/worst example I had of this was when I went into the shop on the right of the main entrance into Peninsula Plaza, I forget its name, the friend I was with, an English guy who has lived in Singapore for many years, he was asked S$65 for a lens cap for his little Fuji camera. I found one for him inside for S$6.50 and I thought that was too much.

I have had enough years out East to handle bargaining. I have bought lenses at Orient Photo in Sim Lim snakepit and had very attractive prices.

I'm a cheapskate who tries to get the most and best equipment for my limited pennies. You might be happy to pay S$65 for a lens cap, I'm not.

BTW Check out some of my pics. of Singapore, I promise you they are worth a quick look.

I wonder why people are bothered with GST. It is a tax, and if we must pay for it, then so be it.
Obviously, if an item are still cheaper after 7% GST, then it still cheaper. If it is not, then better to get from local shops. It's simple economics.

The Peninsula Plaza shops (except for Cathay) are a known no-no. The shop you're mentioning is infamous, and has dozens of complaints already.

Well... just be careful shopping at Peninsular... only Cathay is pretty reliable with pricing and their e-quote thing means that they will honour their price...

As for paying $65 for a lens cap. That's so obviously over-priced that anyone buying must not be using his brain... when I say bite the bullet, I simply refer to those who would go around saving a few dollars (literally) on different parts of the kit they are putting together, and annoying the shop owners with the unreasonable price requests...

Nice to hear that pple r paying tax when they purchase their gears oversea back to SG :sweatsm::bsmilie:

I bought a lens from HK through our MO organizer here, Oracle. He actually paid the GST for the lenses, which means I paid for it also ... Then again, if anyone is afraid of the 10x GST fine, then please pay for it. Otherwise, try your luck..
