Anyone knows the street price of this camera in Spore? I know Expandore sells 2 models, the one without the servo lens and mike costs about $4k before GST. The one with the servo
costs slightly over $4.6k before tax. Anyone knows a cheaper lobang?

CP's price I think is $4.8K and $4.1K with and without servo respectively. I think the price is incl of GST. Check with them.

ahhhh . . . forgot about them. But even Cp is still ex. Sensys is quite reasonable but they deal mainly with Panny products. I know, there's this import export indian company at Serangoon Road.

Hmm, I doubt you can find it any cheaper. It's not a mass-market item.
If you imported it yourself from like B&H it'll be around there too.

Actually on the contrary, in Japan the price tags would always reflect market rate, but when it comes down to the actual purchase, the sellers would often give a discount. When I bought the Nokton 25mm f0.95 in Tokyo, the street price was 95 000 yen. That would work out to be about $1450, alot higher than what Chiif was selling at that time. So, the Sony camcorder could still be cheaper if you walk into the right shop. Better still if you buy a few, then the discount alone would be worth the trip to Japan

You mean that selling price is the 'market rate' but you can usually get a further discount on top of that? Interesting... Never shopped in JP.

Yup that's typical of japanese retailing. The Nokton tthat I mentioned, in the end I ended paying only about 70 000, about $1200, think slightly cheaper than prices in Spore.

Any idea whether the EA50 is better than the NX5P? I had deferred buying the NX5P because it is a fixed lens camera with a small sensor, as well as I can't change the F-Stop.

Better for what purpose? EA50 is APS-C, NX5P is 1/3". Depends on the production genre. Having said that, NX5P is old. The newer sensors are definitely less noisy. Consider the PMW200 XDCAM instead if you like the form factor.

I went to Cathay Photo to test the EA50 yesterday. I also compared it with the NX5P. I know some people here would say that it makes better sense to compare with the FS100 or FS700. Well, I compare with the NX5P because I had initially wanted to buy the NX5P but held back because the DoF is unimpressive.

Findings:
1. The resolution of the EA50 LCD screen is lower than the NX5P. The image looks dimmer and less sharp.
2. The shallow DoF is beautiful compared to the NX5P. It's just like shooting with a DSLR.
3. The auto focus is very slow compared to the NX5P. It is also quite unreliable I think. When I auto focused on a far object and then pan the cam on a near object, the near object could not be auto focused. I zoomed out and in again, panned away and on the near object again, yet the AF still didn't work. Probably it's because the cam can't capture enough lights like the NX5P.
4. The camera feels quite bulky due to the longer body and the front of the cam is heavier.
5. The rolling shutter effect is clearly evident, which is not unexpected of a CMOS sensor.

I was prepared to buy the EA50H (with servo zoom lens) yesterday if not for my concern over the slow (and unreliable) auto focus and low light capability. The salesperson told me that manual focusing is recommended. Since I do indoor shooting most of the time, the low light capability is an issue whereas the lack of ND filters does not bother me that much.

Cathay Photo is selling the EA50H at S$4.8k with GST and warranty. No extra 3% if payment is by credit card unlike other dealers.

I do have one question.

Can the EA50 auto focus if I mount a Canon lens to the EA50 using the metabones Canon EF to Sony E mount smart adapter?

Only on the newest version, it appears.

Metabones has updated its EF to NEX Smart Adapter II, allowing recent Canon lenses to autofocus on Sony E-mount cameras. As with most systems that attempt to use DSLR lenses on contrast-detection-based AF cameras, the focus speed is considerably lower than when used on their native cameras. However, despite not being able to use the hybrid-AF system from the NEX-5R or 6, Metabones claims performance is often better than Sony DSLR lenses being used with the original LA-EA1 adapter. The adapter costs $399, with existing Smart Adapter II owners able to upgrade for $50.
