Sony DSLR unveiled......

I thought they are going to release a mid-spec DSLR? This is nothing more than a D5D in disguise, lah.

Anyway, whatever info we have is at best, all speculation.

I thought KM had a winner with the 5D. $1.2k price with kit lens. Anti shake should be very attractive to a LOT of people. Look at how well the nikon 18-200VR is selling for $1.2k. If one has a KM 5D, I can just buy a sigma 18-200....

What did KM lacks that makes people spend like $1.5k for a D70s? There must be something KM was lacking else nikon will not be doing so well. The flash system? The lens lineup?

Whatever it is, I hope sony knows it.

Feel? Nothing compares to the feel of a 7 or 9 IMHO... Minolta already have bodies that feel great!

if it was the marketing, then Sony should not have a problem right? Somehow if you look at the point of a newbie with no prior lens investment, there must be a huge reason why someone will choose to pay a few hundred dollars more AND give up the AS. Next time buy VR will cost hundreds or thousands more.

KM marketing must really sucks if people don't buy just because of marketing.

I personally dun think there is anything wrong with another D5D clone at the moment. I like the D5D very much, even though I dont owe one. They should be improving on the D7D to make it more competitive, like AF speed and flash accuracy. Film Dynax 7 handling is my favourite camera that I have tried so far.

I think it is much more appealing than the 5D, which has got to be one of the ugliest Minoltas ever released (the 7D is pretty ugly too but in a different way). Boxy and clunky. The 5D looks like an early 1990's job, and a rushed one at that.

But I agree this new picture resembles some of the more "muscular" Canon cameras.

Remember, this is a photoshopped prototype (Sony and Alpha logos added in PS) and the final camera may look different... and no one knows what it really contains outside Minolta/Sony offices right now.

Hmm. Magnus, i'll have to disagree with you about the 7D. :bsmilie:

I love the 7D because it's more angular than C/N cameras like the D50, 350D etc. Somehow or the other this blockiness or chunkiness gives me confidence in the camera. It seems more like a well-made tool rather than a toy.

Yup, some may argue that the 7D's bristling surface may mar its appearance, but I think that while they emphasise function over form, the interface is well designed and elegant and that in itself is a form of beauty.

I hope the sony DSLR is like the 7D in form factor and functionality.

agreed. the main drawbacks right now is 6.1MP and slow AF(relatively), and also the noisy AF. without these problems, i dun see how canon or nikon can be better than KM.
KM has AS---saves money
KM7D is extremely well built
KM7D's egro is the best---dun even need to access menus



many people argue that canon is the best because many professionals entrust their career to the 1Ds, and that we("the-not-so-pro") should just accept this fact and take canon as the superior one.
