Hi shark. There's been many reports about this over the years. There are basically 2 types of tape, one has wet lubricant, the other has dry. Some people seem to be able to mix without any problem, others who normally work with one type get clogged video heads when they switch to the other type (e.g. myself  ).
I usually use Panasonic tapes (dry lubricant) and dread when someone passes me a Sony tape (wet lubricant) to capture footage from. I ALWAYS have to use the cleaning tape several times in order to capture the Sony tape reliably, and then again afterwards when I switch back to my own tapes. I'm not saying Sony tapes are worse (or better) than Panasonic, just that there can be problems when the 2 types are mixed.
