Hi Guys,

My Sony Mini DV camcorder has been almost 6 years old. Should I get those clean the tape head using those Cleaning Cassette? I have try Sony Gallery. But, they don't have. Anu idea where can I get one?

Get the panasonic one I think cheaper

I think SimLim and Funan should sell

Can't remember the price should be less than $15

I guess it doesn't matter what brand right? Any solvent needed?

The cleaning tape brand shouldn't matter, they are all dry type i.e. without solvent. It's mixing DV tape types that can cause problems.

Interesting. You mean by mixing the brand of the DV tape can cause problem to the tape head. I hope is not serious cos I always did that.

Hi shark. There's been many reports about this over the years. There are basically 2 types of tape, one has wet lubricant, the other has dry. Some people seem to be able to mix without any problem, others who normally work with one type get clogged video heads when they switch to the other type (e.g. myself  ).

I usually use Panasonic tapes (dry lubricant) and dread when someone passes me a Sony tape (wet lubricant) to capture footage from. I ALWAYS have to use the cleaning tape several times in order to capture the Sony tape reliably, and then again afterwards when I switch back to my own tapes. I'm not saying Sony tapes are worse (or better) than Panasonic, just that there can be problems when the 2 types are mixed.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me. I guess the 1st thing I should do now is to get a cleaning tape.
