SONY Alpha 100 Press Conference

Hi guys...

Just some thought and images from the Sony launch today.

I just manage to crash the party and hence have some images.... Thanks to Pai, I manage to take those shots with his Dynax 5D and some images taken here using Sony A-100.

My thought (honest one)... hehehe..

Sony A-100 is basically the same as D5D, hence those have the 5D don't worry about upgrading. Yes, 10MP does have better resolution... but problem with ISO 1600. Of course, 1600 is still very acceptable if shoot at the right light condition. Please forgive me that I didn't take any RAW images for ISO 1600 and jpeg version was underexpose... sorry!! took the shots but forgot to change the mode to A priority.

Anyway, the handling of the camera is great, with louder mirror flipping, but acceptable. It is responsive due to its eye start function.

Colour is pretty darn good, I must admit I am impressed with the colour from the camera.

DRO definately works.. probably Sony is over sell the concept...

SSS is definately great, not sure if I can manage 3.5 stops but 3 stops is definately ok.

Overall, I think this camera is very good contender for those who want to start a DLSR system.


Apart from SONY, Carl Zeiss CEO was there so he indicated that more lenses will be produced for Alpha mount. So good news for all of us.

Furthermore, 3600HS D flash is definately works perfectly for the camera, wireless flash works as well. So I expect 5600HS flash works too.

Other than that, I enjoy the launch... I am impressed with Sony's Marketing and presentation of the launch and those models there are quite approachable... yes, I did shoot some, hahaha...


Anyway, I am sure you guys can't wait for the pictures... here it is...

Nope... all lenses there are non working model.

Only A-100 and 18-70 kit lens.

sigh, cheat money one. those lenses that you see in the shots were dummies. they were glued to the platform, and the focus rings didn't turn. the only working lenses were a bunch of 18-70s and one 75-300.

I am very interested in the 16-80 lens, but that lens looks like a cheap lens (not the photo but the lens)...

Hope the performance in the future is gd when tested.

ok try to give some useful info...

compatibility seems to be 100 percent, both backwards and forwards.

as hart already mentioned, the 3600 works on the sony body, and the sony 56 flash is basically a 5600 clone and works on the 5D. the sony 18-70 works on the 5D, and the minolta 50 1.4 works on the alpha. some of the ppl there were like :bigeyes: when me and hart started swapping lens back and forth

sony rep also said that the new lenses will even be compatible with film cameras. a good sign.

Actually the 16-80 the outer shell is full metal body. So certainly looks good in real life.. hehe sorry, need to brush up my skill for product shot...:sweat:
