Sony 70-200G or Tamron 70-200 F2.8 or Sigma 70-200 F2.8 HSM?

(I am slowing convincing myself that I NEED THE LENS, this hobby is addicting..

It's called the BBB virus!!

does anyone have any indoor sports shots either taken with the Sigma or Sony 70-200G 2.8?

I can only speak for the 70-200 G... It served me fantastically at the F1 race

interesting I see you have both the 70-200G & the sony 70-300G, which lens do you use the most? how do you find the 70-300G in low light ? by the way I'm also a big F1 fan, I still fuming that they pulled out the race in Montreal Canada:(

Depends on the situation, really! The 70-300G still works fine for me in low light, but I rarely shoot telephoto at night anyway. ;)

My own preference for low-light shooting is my 135mm f/1.8

ARGH!!!! run! more poison!!!!

Curious: Anyone has used the Sigma 70-200 HSM II? It's about 1k cheaper than the Sony.

And how would it compare to the older Minolta 80-200 APO G (white)?

tried it out on a nikon body cos none of the shops stock the sony mount. the zoom ring IMO is a little too loose for my liking but weight wise is lighter than the 70-200G

Build quality is always a little iffy with Sigma... good but not quite there for a lens that cost over $1K...

my advice is to go for the tamron if you're on a budget as the sigma will have problems with servicing if any problem arises

I believe I spotted the Sigma 70-200 HSM II at CP.

I've got the old 80-200 APO G. I guess despite its 1993 design, it's still a great lens by any standard today. Pity about the fragile paint job though. Any ideas to tackle this problem?

tried it.....the IQ doesn't really match up with sony 70200G..... was disappointed with it, so went to buy the 70200G

Any idea if the Tamron will match the 70-200G in IQ?

i heard it is good in IQ. better than sigma but lose out coz no motor so focussing is a problem. sigma hsm is fast but noisy....touch the 70200G and the other 2 will never be enuff :bsmilie:

ah my 2c worth....

I like 80-200 f2.8 APO G HS a little better than the new SSM, it is sharper more compact.

Having said that, having both is good in case one broke down.

I will go for the white minolta or the SSM anytime rather than 3rd party. A lot of people thing it is sharp when they use 3rd party lens and the "sharpness" is generally redefine when you use the Minolta lenses.

Use the best and leave the rest I reckon.

Regards,

Hart
