I am not sure which accessories you mean...but if you talking about the batteries, do bear in mind that only Sony batteries are INFOlithium which give you the actual percentage of battery life on the screen all the time (not including a230/330/380).

If you compare flashgun prices, Sony is still the cheapest if you compare amongst the same specs.

If you compare lenses, I don't think other brands are cheap either.

If you compare handgrip, same as well...

So I dun really know what accessories you are comparing with...:dunno:

I fully agree. In fact, Sony lenses are frequently cheaper than the other brands (look at the Nikkor 24-70...) and yet we can even get autofocus Carl Zeiss optics!!

If compared to C 50mmF1.8, Sony is much more expensive compared to theirs. However in terms of sharpness. I think Sony 50mmF1.8 is sharp! Very useful, its very usable even at wide open!

Canon:
EF 50mm f1.8 II - $159 (RRP) | $121 (PA-HV, w/ GST, Jul09) | $125 (MS, Oct09)

Nikon:
$190 (MSC, Aug 09 - godaikyoko)

Sony:
50mm f/1.8: RRP is 219. Street price is about 180-185 (depending on shop).

So yeah, maybe compared to canon. But it's the same as Nikon. And the Sony lens is very sharp with very nice bokeh.

and nikons is still AF-D
= manual focus on lower end bodies~

Well..

Their $50+ hand strap..

$40+- neoprene strap..

things like that..

I have been using Sony products for quite a long time. In spite of that I can live with the fact that Sony Style Shops charge premiums on their products.

Let's not deny the fact that all Sony Style Shops including one in Funan IT mall charge according to Sony pricing guidelines while just a few minutes of walk away private camera dealers give generous discounts on Sony products. What's ignorance, unattentional blindness or corporate snub? They just pretend the market mechanism doesn't apply to them and charge higher prices as they please. Are things from Sony's own shops gold-plated? No, it's their corporate policy. Facts and period

I don't want to mislead people by leaving out facts and tell just one sided truth, that would make me sound like a Sony Fan Boy. Be no fan of any brand, you will be consumed by it instead of consuming it.

Cheaper? No.
Discounts? Yes.
Same prices after discounts? Yes.

You just have to ignore the existence of Sony Style shops and buy your equipments from other well known camera shops that give you discounts. But always remember Sony's attitude which is shown in its price tags.

And Canon's in their RRP, and Nikon in their RRP, etc. I could take your post and replace "Sony" with any of the other manufacturers and it's the same thing. Even for Canon, you'd go to their vivocity showroom to test their lenses, but you certainly wouldn't pay their price!

That's because Sony style have to charge retail price. If u go to courts u will also see them selling at retail price.

The price is fixed for retailers, they hv to sell products based on RRP. I thought everyone knows that.

Ps: FYI, this applies to all brands and all products, not just cameras.

Agreed...

And at least Sony has a few nicely located shops for you to try out the cameras till you shioked before heading the the friendly shops to buy them if you dislike the RRP.

For that matter, who would want to pay RRP in the first place? Even Canon/Nikon and any other brands are sold as RRP in Courts/Best Denki or at their own showrooms...

I just can't find any justifications to say Canon/Nikon stuffs are cheaper...:dunno:

Absolutely true.

So, let's not leave that part out too. Canon has one product display shop in Singapore that charges premium.

All other shops sell at the real market prices.

There must be some reasons people always ask why Sony dSLR products are so expensive.

Sony has a problem because it has many of its own Sony Style Shops all over the world that are charging premiums.

All corporates have their recommended prices. The difference is that all Sony Style shops do not react to market changes until long after its products have dropped in values; Other brands( canikon) don't usually sell products by their own shops and try to maintain high prices as long as possible.

Corporate policies/pricing have to be followed even by Sony's own retail shops(Sony Styles Shops). They don't have much choices but to follow Sony's recommended prices(RRP). No one ever thought strong market presence can be a problem.

The fact is that there are many SonyStyle Shops charging at RRP that no one would actually pay for, unless one is less informed.
And people start to think Sony is more expensive than others which is not the case in the real market. Cheaper or equally priced Sony items are easily accessible from other camera dealers. This is also a fact.

Is it a good thing that Sony products are perceived as premium products when in fact Sony is selling many entry level camera bodies at low prices now? Baffling.
