Sony 30mm macro f/2.8 vs Sigma 30mm f/1.4

Thanks for the sharing the sample pics. Hmm I think I will need to rely on the 35/1.8 Sony lens to get a bit shallower DOF. The 30/1.4 Sigma would be nice, but the price point is really high.

The 30/2.8's Macros are very nice though, seeing as how this is a cost affordable lens.

Good idea to wait for the 35F1.8. The larger F-stop does make quite a bit of difference. I will probably get one for myself when it is out. ;)

Hi,

Does anybody uses the Sony 30mm f/2.8 macro lens as portrait lens on APS-C? Need some advice cos I'm thinking of getting it to replace my Sigma 30mm f/1.4. I'm tempted to so cos the Sony piece is smaller, lighter and it provides a lot more details when I want to shoot say, 'a statue with the background bokeh of people visiting it.' The Sigma can do the job with great bokeh but somehow the subject is a little soft. Is it worth the higher level of detail for the loss of wider aperture and focusing speed? Or is it just my poor skill? Any comments are appreciated.

I think you're right, was reading some review that Sigma 30mm f1.4 is soft at wide open. I think the sweet spot is 1-2 step around 1.8 -2.8.

I think 35mm (55mm equivalent) or 50mm (80mm Equivalent) is a good focal lenght to consider specially for portraits if you can get f1.8 that should be sweet
