Hey guys....
i just bought a jupiter 8 later from BNS and i find something not quite right with the aperture ring.

This is when aperture is wide open. Notice the number 2 doesn't stop exactly on the green dot.

This is when aperture is at the smallest. Once again, it doesn't stop exactly where it should be.

Not sure if its anything major and I wonder if a CLA will fix it or even worth it as the lens wasn't expensive? Its my fault that I only did a very brief check on the lens so I have no one to blame.

On a separate note, how often do you guys send your camera or lens for CLA? i've read on the internet that if the camera is functioning (nothing wrong mechanically or optically), there's no need to CLA. How true is that? Will you be bothered by a speck of dust in the VF like this?

if its useable and doesn't affect image, then i guess you could probably make do with it, its not a major problem... assuming this lens costs around s$80-100, sending this for CLA will set you back another s$50-80... its just not worth it in my opinion, you might as well use the money and get a new copy if you know what i mean!

I dont think its anything to fret about, even leica lenses, as well made as they are, have a bit of play in the aperture ring

i see.. i leave it as it is then...So how often do you guys cla your camera or lenses? Only when its not functioning properly?

General rule of thumb:

If the image is good, continue shooting. Nothing to fix.
