Hi guys,
just want to check about a condition of a Leica M6 Classic..
It's made in 1990 based on the serial no, and haven't been used for 3-4 years..
i found some problem on this M6..
1. at the slow shutter condition 1/8 1/4 1/2 1/1, the shutter sometimes stuck.
2. then the krkkrkkkk.. sound at the slow shutter, sometimes is not stop even the shutter already closed.
3. seems at certain shutter speed like 1/15 or 1/4 1/2 1/1, the metering is always showing underexposed.. but at 1/8 is showing right meter.. ( i compare with my other RF ) and at faster shutter speed 1/30 above the metering seems ok... i thought this metering things happen because of battery, but after i change the battery it seems still showing the same problems.

my question :
1. does CLA with solve all the problems?
2. how much is approx CLA costs?
3. where to CLA? camera hospital? cam-x?

Thanks for reading guys >___<

You can try CamX. You can also call up Camera Hospital for a quote. I think its at least 280 for a CLA. CamX charged me lower than that when I CLA'd my Leica III. The Camera Workshop does it too. but they can only quote u after seeing the camera

I had mine M6 CLA and lightleak fixed for 160 at CamX. My RF, shutter speed and lightleak all checked and fix. :)

I suggest you let Andrew Chan have look at it and he will give you a quote. This is certainly worth it if the camera is in an original condition as it is a classic (preferred over the TTL model). The address is:

Schmidt Marketing (Singapore) Pte Ltd
3791 Jalan Bukit Merah
#01-08 E-Centre @ Redhill
Singapore 159471
Telephone: 6275 7888 ext 768.

Try De Camera Consultant at Grandlink Square. His workmanship is very good. The repair cost worth every single cent.

thanks for the respond and info guys,
will try to contact those people...
before i just afraid that even if i CLA the camera it didnt solve the problem..
now i just cross my finger to hope the CLA cost is not to high :)
thanks a lot...

IMHO, you can save that few hundred bucks. see my comments below:
(if you r not lucky, (touch wood), your nice M6 may come back with other problems.

OTHO, if you don't mind spending $$$ and waiting for 3-4 months, of course sending it to that Andrew (= Leica in Germany, that is probably the only one thing that he knows best.) would make your M6 works to original specs.

Thank God we all have choice.

>>common for camera left unused for a long time. Try "exercising" those slow speeds many times. It normally improves or even self-recovered :)

2. then the krkkrkkkk.. sound at the slow shutter, sometimes is not stop even the shutter already closed.
>>This is perfectly normal. You need to worry if it doesn't sound this way

3. seems at certain shutter speed like 1/15 or 1/4 1/2 1/1, the metering is always showing underexposed.. but at 1/8 is showing right meter.. >> small issue. Over the years, the white spot for metering can turn yellow. Just remember to over- the exposure when shooting at these speeds lor. Or using a handheld meter, a much more accurate method anyway.

Hi YOL925,
thanx for the tips, i'm trying to make the camera "exercise"right now, i hope can make it "healthy"

about the "krkkkrkk" sound, i know they will have it at slow shutter speed, but from my experience before the sound will stop after the shutter closing ( cmiiw ) but this one still have the sound even the shutter already close like 2-3 secs ago... >___<

about the metering, some of the speed is always showing underexposed, not as in showing more under than the right exposure, but always showing it's under exposed even i set iso 6400, at f/2, 1 secs facing the sun >___<

thanks for the tips man, i hope can solve the problem since i've been around some shops this afternoon and all the quotes is quite high :(

ESP. AT 1 SEC!

BTW, this has sth to do with the lowest limit of the metering method. Stop worrying about all these.

thanks for the tips man, i hope can solve the problem since i've been around some shops this afternoon and all the quotes is quite high :( >>Save that few hundreds which can buy you 100 rolls of film to shoot. After that 100 rolls, you would probably say your M6 is the best one in SG:angel:
