I have a question as my understanding of it is cloudy.

What is meant by "soft" pictures?

Does this just mean that it isn't as sharp as a tack?

cloudy is more related to lack of contrast. soft pictures more to do with edges. just imagine a photo of the letter A. if sharp, it looks like it is drawn with a ruler. if soft, it have this blurry edges.
