Hi all!

I have been using SM and CF cards for some time, and will like to know if any of you have any opinions about this...

Smart media has been getting some bad rep, and for what reasons, i do not know. People are always saying that CF is better, and so too is microdrive.

Personally i think SM's bad rep is totally unfounded. Processing speeds are fast and they are light. CF cards tend to differ in read write speeds and the fastest card does not mean the camera can take full advantage of it. Also, they are bigger and therefore slightly heavier.

However, SM with its exposed media, can be damaged quite easily, especially if one steps on it . CF looks tough, and seems quite hardy. But that is only for Type 1 CF card, apparently the microdrives cannot take drops?

Reaon why i am asking is: DPreview seems to whack smart media quite bad, and does not even include it in their memory card comparison. In fact, the only card they seem to like is CF card, and they seem to love the Microdrive more.

:dunno:

I have not use CF or Microdrive before, so I am not offering any comparision here; just SMC user experience.

I think SMC has its limitation: capacity cap at 128 MB.

Many are saying that it is a deadend technology, but to me this may not be a disadvantage. Deadend tech also mean it is cheaper to me as an user.

The main advantage, however, is its size. I can easily put 5-6 SMC in a small plastic box of a size of 4AA size battery case, slip inside my pocket and don't feel a burden.
