Happy new year to all fellow clubsnappers!

To start the year, I'd just like to share some of the photos I took last year while exploring the Andaman region of Thailand. I was in Phuket in October catch a glimpse of the popular Vegetarian Festival. Having never been to this event before, I must admit that it reminds me of our own Thaipusam procession. Anyways, here are some of the pictures taken at the Festival. I have also added the rest in my Andaman Collection 2012 thread.

The road leading to the procession - it can get fairly confusing to find the main road in Old Phuket Town where the procession takes place. I was fortunate enough to find it by following a bunch of noisy kids. One foreign journalist wasn't so lucky - she arrived a few minutes after the participants passed by. Some really grandly-designed-and-decorated idols were erected specifically for this Festival. [Kodak E100VS; Summicron 28mm ASPH]

People by the roadside waiting for the procession to pass - firecrackers hidden from view! [Kodak E100G; Summicron 75mm APO]

A group of young 'clan' members taking part in the procession. The different clans and associations each have their own representatives for this procession. Some in small groups while others were quite numerous. [Kodak E100VS; Summicron 28mm ASPH]

These guys don't appear fazed at all by the explosion and chaos generated from firecrackers - I chickened out and decided to keep away from the main road since it looked like the prime target of the firecracker tossers! [Kodak E100VS; Summicron 28mm ASPH]
