Having fun with my lomo cam on Saturday morn. Waist-level view finder is such a joy to use. Big, bright, and 3D. Enjoying the weird expression of passerbys too...

Hi Jusbay,

You're kidding right, when you asked for a briefing on how to use the camera ;) Seriously good and nice shots.

Nice shots man hahaha i know all the places you too near my house area lol

Still learning, teacher. This is my 8th roll after getting the cam from you. Btw thks for maintaining the cam so well.

Thanks. I stay around there, shuttergirl too. Lets lomo together sometime!

nice shots!

hard to focus? haha.

eh. cool, i stay around the area too. faber garden. we can start a lomo community in upper thomson. HAHA.

you hv a 166B too?

ya, focus is challenging. but getting the right exposure is more. slightly overexposed will give a bluish tint, as seen in the 九鲤洞 pic. :embrass:

the 166B doesn't have a meter right? did you use an external meter for the shots?

what film were you using? and i don't have one, sadly.

how much did you get it for? i'm thinking of getting one.

i meter with A100. settings accordingly to match the lubitel just to get the shutter speed right. I used Fuji PRO 160S. Bought from shuttergal $180.

Great shots! Haha, looks like I'm gonna do the same too (Using another camera to meter) if I get a TLR of my own.

thks. :) choose a camera that can set iso, multisegment metering, Aperture/shutterspeed priority.

nice shots from your lubi.

i've got a lubi 166 universal, very similar to your 166B. they take great shots and are a lot of fun to use.

besides using another camera to get exposure reading, might i suggest the "sunny f16" rule. i find it very useful in estimating exposure. in a nutshell, in bright sunny conditions, a shutter speed of 1/film ISO and an aperture of f16 should give reasonable exposure.

oh, here's a tip i find useful when using my lubitel, i use a remote cable release to activate the shutter instead of the actual lever. i find that it minimises camera shake, specially when i press the lever down too quickly.

Thks.:)
You are luckier. mine did not c/w the remote cable release. My maths is lousy, trying get a bit of bokeh at F5.6 on my lubi I cannot count the shutter speed liao...

compensate the number of stops 5.6 is from 16 - 3 stops.

say you were shooting at iso 400, and with the f16 rule, shutter speed = 1/iso speed; 1/400 at f16 would have given you a correct exposure.

say you're still shooting at iso 400, and with compensation due to the change in the aperture, your shutter speed should be faster; 1/1600.

is my calculation correct ah? ha.

so if the f number goes down 3 stops, the shutter speed moves up 3 stops as well? this seems easy now.

my lubi f stops are: 4.5, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22

shutter speeds: 15, 30, 60, 125, 250

looking at the hardware limitations, for 160film, f number cannot go down to f8 since there's no faster speed than 250? it is worse for 400film when f number cannot go less than f22 on a sunny day. am I thinking correct?:embrass:

on a sunny day and you're shooting outside, don't use 400 film. i'd use 100 or 125. that way if i wanted depth of field, i can open up aperture and still use a reasonable shutter speed. do note that the 'rule' is just a guide so as to give you a start point for selecting an exposure. it is not an exact reading.

when the aperture becomes smaller (ie, f number becomes bigger), your shutter speed becomes slower. and this works vice versa. when the aperture becomes bigger (ie, f number becomes smaller), your shutter speed becomes faster.

and when you go up or down the f number by # number of stops, you compensate the shutter speed by # number of stops.

look at this link for the f stop table. http://www.riversidecardiology.com/fstop/f-stop.htm

this is a shutter speed table. http://www.thornton-oetzel.com/ken/liquidair/ss_table.html

yup, use 100 film. if you can find iso 50 even better. however, if you suay suay kanna some clouds or the skies become overcast, then liao!!!

yo Jasbay.
i finally see your lubitel shots..you poisoned me..damn it.im gna source for 1 !
