Personally I have Sigma 12-24 and KM 11-18.

I much prefer KM 11-18 for image quality, but Sigma 12-24 has better build quality.

Will do more testing..

Here is some shots comparing the two lenses...

Both the Tamron 11-18 and KM 11-18 has been critisized for being too plastic. Any idea if they are both the same ?

From the sample pictures, both sigma produces similar color tone which is very much different from the Tamron. Wonder which is more accurate ?

Will be interesting to see your test result between the Sigma 12-24 and the KM 11-18.

Sigma 10-20... Yesterday went CP ask, seems that they dun have anymore of it in Minolta Mount.

Checked with Alan Photo at SLS. They have the Sigma 10-20 Minolta mount (about 3 weeks ago when I was there.

Woot! Really?! Maybe tomorrow pop over to AP if got the time.

Both photos shoot at f8 at 11mm and 12mm respectively... Shoot in RAW and process the same way.

I haven't got time to check at wide open yet.

Feedback?

I will prefer the KM 11-18

Thanks for sharing, Hart. The 1mm seem to make quite some different. But I bet the view of 12mm on film must be spetacular.
But the colour tone/exposure seem a bit different? Is it 12-24mm warmer?
Can't see the corner crop photo though, seem too dark on my monitor.

Man , hart ,the KM looks better to me? giving me a hard time between the KM and sigma ley..

Although both made by Tamron, there maybe actual significant difference in image quality between the KM 11-18mm and the Tamron 11-18mm, but no one has actually tried to verify this since...

No Minolta user will buy the Tamron version since the KM version price is so close there is no discernable cost advantage to buy 3rd party... (so the Tamron should be replaced with the KM in your shortlist) :)

Not much different really, but Sigma seems to be slightly on warm side.

Distortion is pretty good on Sigma in outdoor shots where the subject is not so close to you.

If for example I am using the Sigma 12-24 on internal shots, I can see the wall is actually curve (distorted) pretty badly as compare to KM version.

Main advantages of the Sigma 12-24 is you can use it on film...

KM 11-18 is much lighter than Sigma version, but don't exactly feel cheap... A lot of plastic... Its ok I guess.

I got both about the same price, with Sigma only $100 more ex.

I am please with both lens, but Sigma lens will be mainly for backup lens. I am selling my 15-30 EX since I am not going to use it. Anyone interested, let me know.

Hart

Thanks for the comparison.

There is a slight difference in color between the two. Similar to the Sigma and Tamron case. Which one is closer to actual ?

Looking at the SIGMA center, on the left side, the pipe seems to have some red fringing ? :dunno:

Hmm... The 11-18 seems to produce more neutral tones over the 12-24 which has a very slight orangey tinge to it.

Centre sharpness both lenses seem to pass the test. But the corner... Is it a matter of just exposure?

I guess all that's left is the colour preference. I'd prefer the 11-18 (if I've got the choice) where colour neutrality is concerned. Not too keen to have a warm cast over my photos.
