the other way is to manual focus loh, i've not had much problems with manual focusing my 50mm f/1.4, a split prism also comes in handy... i had the chance to play with a tokina 20-35mm f/2.8 and i drew to the same conclusion too, the AF accuracy is pretty poor especially if its a wide lens.
