Hi,

I own The sigma 17-50mm but i feel the reach was not enough with my shooting style.
I have in mind 15-85mm, since i shoot portraits and landscapes.
i am also considering 24-105mmL because i like the f4.

to stay with sigma or go with canon?
is it a fair trade if i swap?

Thanks

You will have to decide what is more important to you. The focal length reach or large aperture.

*I get the feeling that you got bitten by the L bug*

If no need the wide angle go for 24-105L loh. If not 10-22 + 24-105L would be best LOL

What camera you using?

15-85 actually had close to L grade optics~ only the build maybe not as good as L

I owned the 15-85 and was thinking to changed to 24-105L untill i tested out my friend's 24-105L~
I dont find much difference in contrast, wide still 15-85 wider 105L has longer reach but gain not a lot from 85 to 105 when i tested it... so i decided to keep my 15-85mm instead~

I agree. Optically, the 15-85 is a darn good lens. I tend to shoot more on the wide side, so personally I would favour this focal range over the 24-105 especially on a crop camera.

I think you like the L lah, not f4 hehe

:bsmilie:

precisely.. who would like the f/4? more like f/0.95 right? :bsmilie:

Basically... what did you find lacking in the 17-50mm? Aperture - can't be, it is a f2.8... wideness? If it is wideness you want, then 24-105mm is not the lens for you. Range? If it was range that you are after, you can keep the 17-50 and add a 70-200mm. If you want anything wider than the 17-50, then you might look to a 10-22mm or Tokina 11-16, 12-24mm... and that should be good enough.

If you want the widest reach, look no further than the Canon EF-S 18-200mm.

Otherwise, I don't see what's wrong with the Sigma. You can always change the your proposed lenses yourself and figured out if that is what you want.

If there is sufficient budget, I would keep the Sigma, and add a Canon 85mm f/1.8. The prime would be great for portraits, but of course it may not be for everyone.

my main worry if i would miss the constant f2.8 of 17-50. i seldom use f2.8.
i really like to focal length of 15-85.
