Hoping to spark off again this series of lighting setup sharing, after a hiatus of a year plus on the previous thread.
I think what really made this subsection of the forum really useful, was the sharing of techniques, tips and tricks fleshed out in detail. I would like to think of it as an open recipe book, so here is my 1st contribution to this chapter.
Recently I a TFCC (time for cupcakes) shoot for a friend starting up her own online bake shop. More pics can be found in the food subsection here.
Setup for Cupcakes
Went with my trusty Quadra (as regular readers of the prev 2 threads will know), with a 1m Octa softbox on one head and the other in a gridded reflector. The speedlite was there mostly to prop up that white piece of plastic board, though I did turn it on later to provide slightly more fill than just the bare reflection off the white surface. Was going for a high-key, bright and cheery look for the cupcakes.
Cupcake Breakdown
A breakdown of the 3 light sources in the final image, with my own handwritten notes overlaid. Key light was at f/10 ISO 100, with the accent about 1.5 stops lower, and the fill even lower. An accent light just bounces off your reflective sauces, giving the glistering look.
Looking forward to other contributions to this thread.
