Shooting Recent Aviv Challenge with a RF

2 Sundays ago, I went to the Aviva 70.3 challenge to snap photos of some friends who participated at the team event there.

For gear, I took 2 cameras:

A Fuji GW690 II, I think this the 2nd largest RF made in the world (the largest is the Mamiya Super 23). The negatives are 6x9cm in size and when scanned at 2400 dpi produces 40+ megapixel images. The roll can only take 8 exposures each. (!). For film, I used a combination of Fomapan 100 and 400 films.

A M4-P with 35/F2 Cron and 90mm Elmarit f2.8 lens. Film used was Ultrafine Extreme 400.

I only managed to snap at the beginning of event.

you can view the pix here:

Above captured with 90mm lens.

In retrospect:

* For action sequence, no time for focusing. Only distance focus and hyper-distance will do.

* Singapore sky can be hazy, so a yellow or orange filter is a must to capture details of the sky.

* The Fuji GW690 negatives are incredible. Its like that imaging machine in Blade Runner Movie that you can keep zooming and zooming. But it isn't practical for a sporting event. Throw this camera at a dog and the dog will die.

* Suffering from ADD, I got bored after an hour. I realised that there are alot of planes at 7 -8am in the morning, flying quite low and visible. Perhaps my next project should be called " Planes and Bikinis". A lot more interesting than watching men throwing themselves into the sea :)

Cheers!
