Hi all,
just got back from a frustrating time with a buyer. although this is consumer's corner, i would still like to post this story as a seller to warn other sellers or buyers not to sell to this buyer.
I sold my Olympus 35 SP to this guy at around 6 in the evening. I had described it accurately in my advertisement and that the only problem with it is that the shutter speeds 1/2 sec and below did not work as the shutter would get stuck. I had demonstrated it to the guy and he acknowledged the problem. There was no other problem he wanted to highlight at the point of sale and the transaction was made.
At around 9:30 at night, i received this sms from him, "Hi bro I found ur olympus cam shutter release lock does not work. In any case e shutter release button can be pressed down. N u did not tell abt this in the post." When i read this i was worried that something was really wrong and i called him immediately to see if i can settle the case. I asked him to clarify what he means by "cam shutter release lock" and how it did not work. I kept asking, "ARE YOU SURE?!" to which he replied, "yes of course i'm sure, i'm looking at it right now. He explained to me that the shutter is "releasing" even though he did not wind the lever. I was puzzled that a camera would even do that, so i agreed to meet him at 10 for a full refund.
When we met up, i checked the camera AND EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE! the shutter did not fire off when the lever was not cocked or wound. I demanded to know what was wrong with it. All he did was push the shutter button and said, "see i can still push it when it isn't cocked". He pulls out his Nikon FE2 and demonstrates the shutter lever lock feature special to Nikon. I WAS IRATE!!! There was nothing wrong with the camera and he is saying there is something wrong with it because he can press the shutter button when it's not cocked. After trying to explain to him that the design is only special to Nikon and not apparent in all other cameras, he still would not accept it and demanded a refund. I was so frustrated that i just gave him back the money and took my camera back.
Buyers, please do not be like this guy:
first, he accused me for giving false information on my post, which threatened to hurt my integrity as a seller.
second, he did not fully check the camera before purchasing it.
third, he did not research his product before coming down to view and purchase the camera.
In all, this was just a complete waste of my time and travel to and fro the meeting place. i think i did lie in my post after all: my warranty status was "none" and i gave this difficult guy a full refund for a perfectly working camera...regretting my move in the heat of the moment...
And for all Sellers, please note this h/p number 9296 6784 if he does approach you to get your camera.
