I'm Seeking info from the Leica pro bro's.... Buy the 28 or 35 Cron ???

I almost got the 35 Cron today, but bank account was $500 to little.... hahahah.

But considering a Summicron 28 or 35...... everyone says both a great !!!!

I own the 50 f1.4 now and plan over the next 12 months to add a 28 or 35 Cron then a 75 cron......... ;)

What you think, you know Leica better than I ( many of you ).

Thx all :)

28 cron since you already have a 50mm

focal length is very personal. only u can answer this question.

I think you won't go wrong with a 35 / 50 / 90.

I have a 35 Cron, a 50 Lux and a 90 Rit.

Although I use the 50 alot, i also interchange it with the 35.

In my opinion, the 28, 75 and 135 are great lens too. Bruce Gilden uses it a lot with his leica for street shooting. And Gary Winogrand, the grand daddy of street photography used the 28mm on the M4. The 28mm is similar from the 35 in terms of focal length, but the perspective is very different.

For wides, i use a 25/f4 CV lens. But honestly I dunno how to use it yet, my photos have too much info in them...

28, 35, 50 and 90mm are all inside the frames of most Leica cameras. They are all good buy but the 28mm cron is more expensive then the 35mm cron. I never have a 28mm but I have the 24mm Elmarit. Although it is not in the camera frame lines, this is a super solid lens. I would said that the 28mm cron or elmarit is as good man. I also have the 35 and 50mm cron and they are all solid performers. Choosing between the two will come down to your style of photography. Ask yourself these questions. Do you always find yourself too close to your subject and the lens you use is not wide enough? If so, 28mm maybe a good choice. If you always find that the lens you use is already wide enough, then 35mm is good for composition shots. Do you like to do hyperfocusing and shooting from your hip? If yes, 28mm can do better because it is wider. By the way, either one is already very good for streets and environmental portrait and more...

Lashing out..... I'm getting the 35 Cron tonight... I've put one on hold.... reading this I may well see the 28mm in another 6-8 months ;)

Thx for feedback.

Bro, rushing to buy before the new prices kick in on 1 Jan 2012 right? ;)

I agree with mazeppa26. I got a 50mm and bought a 35mm. I sold off my 35mm and got a 28mm Summicron. So one lens for portraits and one for landscapes/group shots. This two-lens combo has served me well so far.

I've only had the 28mm Cron for a few days but my experience with it so far has been positive. Very sharp and nice rendering when shot at lower apertures. I feel its a bit wide for one person shots though - unless you shoot really, really close to the subject.

Cheers

What new prices? How much more is that?

It's official for Leica USA, so am sure It will follow suite..... no not rushing because of this, but now you mention it ;)

Ive got the "standard industry discount" of -3% off the lens...... better than a poke in the eye... but my wallets still getting utterly stabbed !!!

What new prices? How much more is that?

There will be a 5-15% increase for the lenses depending on model. For the 35 cron, it is about $2xx more from 1 Jan - as verified with Leica Raffles.

check out some post in leicarumours.com
they have the USA listed prices

ARRGGHHH!!! :mad2:

I just called Leica Raffles, the 50 cron that I want will increase be 10%! There isn't any shop locally that has stock!

er, get the black version if there's any stock right now..When the chrome is available next year, sell the black one and you probably won't lose $$$.

Ultimately, it comes down to focal length and which you prefer. 28mm makes more sense if you have a 50mm but 35mm is also very versatile.

In terms of imaging quality, the 28mm is a slight step above the 35 cron asph as its rendering is smoother and the 28mm perspective is more impresive if used correctly. It makes you work harder but the results are very rewarding compared to a more subdued 35mm. The 35 cron is also the most sold used Leica lens and it is so because it's a simple lens with little character. Its not unique in any way, but for a good shooter more concerned with content it's perfect.

Liz-Low Taylor ONLY uses this lens. lltphotography.com

For 28mm, check out Trent Parke of Magnum, who only shoots with a 28mm Elmarit VIII. The 28mm is a more dynamic lens but you MUST get closer and work harder.

I'd go the 28 cron for sure ;)

Nah, only 10% of the 50 cron isn't that much, cause that is less than depreciation off a brand new lens. Just eat more at hawker centers till end of Jan and I should be fine. What irks me is that I can go out to get one now, but there isn't any for sale. I was looking for the black and not the chrome.

Haha.

From my understanding, there will be a shipment to raffles this thursday. You may want to follow up again then.

Thanks for sharing the links bro! Really nice black & white shots there.

For me, I'm looking at the works of Anthony Suau, who uses the 28mm Summicron for most of his works. Some of his works on Youtube:

1. Berlin Wall - The Iconic Photo of the Fall of the Berlin Wall - YouTube

2. Casualties of War -Anthony Suau | Icontent | Douglas Sloan Director - YouTube
