I was in Funan and got to try the TH1 after some pretty bad store experience with AP there and HN

(AP dont even want to insert the batt for me to try, and HN laugh at me asking for Sanyo TH1 with loads of crap what is HD 1080P talk)

So went to Song Bro (i dont like them either but at least they let me try).

Physical & Feel:

its small and light... so light its like inside empty. So grip is not as good as its seems to float in your hand but this is gonna be good news for those who want something really light.

Very plastic feel, but for the price its suppose to feel cheap so nothing surprising. Buttons are well situated but sometimes you need to yoga your thumb a bit to get the 4 way cursor working.

Video:
I cannot really tell from the LCD but I foreseen some problem with this camera:

- The IS (Image stabilizer) is still digital and not optical, and its still as crappy... it seems that some scene the camera cannot tell if i am moving the camera or my hand shake, resulting in a rather jerky motion. (Cannot 100% varify as i never download the clip to watch)
- 30x zoom is useless.. unless u got tripod. As mentioned above, anything zoom greater then 3x will leave the IS useless. So u need VERY VERY Steady hand.

Lens is bit wider, so thats a good improvement but not as wide as the mainstream, sub 1.5k canon/panasonic/sony

others:
Battery life rated 3 hrs which is very good... no charger, so u either charge with the camera or get orignal charger... if cheapo then get 3rd party one.

overall:
It feels like using the old Xacti HD700 HD800 and CG10... just that the form of holding is different and with better batt life, better wide lens, able to add lens adapter. However, if you are hving any of the older Xacti, the only reasons to upgrade into this model i can think of is :
-better holding style (less hand shake)
-longer batt life
-wider lens, with lens adapter to attach wider lens or tele lens.
-maybe a better video quality but seems not much different from the LCD preview and the spec sheet.

I don't think those with older Xacti will find this a real upgrade... Locally retails for $690 but you can get it in HK for USD290 (usd320 with postage incl)

If u want something light, good with 720P HD video.. this is a good camera to start with at such price.

But if anyone can splash out more, the Panasonic SD20 is a good bet at SGD$1000+

comments, esp TH1 owners are most welcome to correct me.

wow...TsQ.

good camera overview! For some reason, I won't buy Sanyo in this platform. I believe I will choose Canon over this Sanyo. Do you agree?

Hope u guys find it useful..

as for canon, but well its obvious ... as the canon HD cam cost at least ard $1500 i think (say HF200).. and this one is more then half the price.. so its nothing really able to compare to so call the 'proper' heavyweight ones.

Put it this way, more and more the Xacti gives me the feeling that this is the video function feature of a Still PNS camera (but add in stereo recording, better zoom, and thats basically it)

take a look at the latest panasonic lumix PNS 1080P video feature... its probably performs almost like the xacti , minus the stuff i just mentioned above.
