Since you mentioned 'the 1st time' I presume you know nuts about skates or buying skates?
Here are what you MUST do when buying skates (which is different from buying shoes, that is)
1) Get 1 to 1/2 size smaller than your usual shoe size.
2) Go for the aluminium frame ones, don't buy plastic frame
3) MOST importantly, make sure you TRY OUT physically in the shop to see if it fit you SNUGLY, if the sale staff refuse to let you try then don't buy from them. Make sure the skate is not too tight or loose, this is paramount in skating.
Like photography, you get what you pay for in skating equipment too, wonder how the word "Cheapskate" comes from? It makes a difference.
