Hi All,
I know some of your when see the above subject goes like... what the....? or the camera is old, why need another review?
Anyway, what ever you are thinking, I am just going to write what I think about the camera and what it helps me in terms of learning about photography after being so used to DSLR.
I am just going for its positive side...
1. Speed.
The Dimage 7Hi in all respect is pretty slow for taking any serious higher frames per second shot in RAW mode. However, the best thing about this is it allow you to train yourself to wait for the moment and think more. It is rather intriquing that I have higher keeper / no of shots fire.
2. Image Quality
Until recently I shoot only in RAW format for obvious reason... flexibility. I suppose you have more time to think when waiting for the buffer to clear.
The image quality is very acceptable in all respect. Although I won't print something in A1 size, but up to A3 or A2 size I think it is acceptable when standing on "normal" viewing distance.
3. Size
Being small and light and the absence of mirror slap, it is very safe to shoot anything down to 1/4 sec with good and consistent result of sharpness. Hence shooting at ISO 100 and ISO200 is suffice.
4. Zoom
Having a 28mm to 200mm lens on a small body is really nice, and since you can't change the lens, it forces you to think differently and work in the most effective way in order to capture the image that you "see". In that I mean, you are learning to "see" rather than shoot and shoot then think later.
Last but not least, having using this camera for about 2 weeks here in Beijing, it teachs me to slow down, think and learn how to "see" and try to push my post processing technique to it could come close to DSLR quality. To be honest, I have a real joy learning to use this camera.
If you have one, try to use it, and try not to think about its shortcoming, but learn how to enjoy those short coming...
To end my review, just going to post few images taken with this camera...
Hope this review helps you to understand the important of learning process.
Until then... keep shooting...
Hart
