Restoring Old Camera

Hi all,

I just manage to dig up my dad's really old camera. It's a Yashica Electro 35..don't know if you guys know what it is.

I really want to bring it to some shop to get it checked out and maybe repair if it is spoiled...I think its a little moldy too

any recommendations where i won't get chopped a hand and a leg? And also if possible maybe let me know what kind of price am i expecting...

The Electro is a nice camera, a little on the large side but with a well regarded lens.
Is there a battery inside? Check the connection points to see if its rusted out etc.
If that looks clean, then you can google for how to use modern batteries to power it up. If it does not fire, then at least you'll be able to make a decision on getting it sorted.
Nice lens, stepless aperture and quiet.

Thanks for the advise. I checked out the battery...totally not rusted at all and i have googled it up too..


Any advise on where to bring it to get it further cleaned up?

I usually send my stuff for repair at Camera Hospital (Sunshine Plaza).

He cleaned my Yashica MG-1, pretty fun!

how much did you pay for the clean up?

Its pretty costly compared to other shops, but hes a nice chap to talk to
CLA of fungus and etc was $120 I believe.

Unless u really want to keep the camera as it has some emotional value, you should also check around (clubsnap buy&sell, ebay) as well. Personally, I won't pay more than $100 to repair, I will get new & good working condition ones for ~ more or less.

I helped friend to buy many canon QL17, Yashica GSN, etc from ebay ~100USD incl shipping (~20-30USD), accessories. All were in working condition (shutter, rf alignment, meter, etc). If u r lucky enough, can get with even much cheaper price.

I will pay for repairing/CLA if I found a good/mint condition cameras of rare versions (such as black QL17 made in japan, yashica 35CCN, etc)
