Greetings,

I've recently acquired a Leica IIIb, having being in storage for the last 20 odd years, the primary issue is the harden and cracked leather cladding on the body, any advise or recommendation of a local service centre to have the cladding replaced? Or is sending it back to Germany my only option?

Cheers.

AFAIK, third party leatherette kit for Leica IIIc or IIIf is available from oversea, but NOT for IIIb (the size of which is slightly smaller than IIIc).

You can try Mr. Lim/Mecanica Camera @ #04-60 Shaw Centre. He can cut the covering material to size for you ( if it is available) and do a nice job. Expected to pay $150 or there about. Not cheap, rite? If you send it to Leica agent, it would be even worse (probably costs more and expect a long long wait, like 3 to 6 months!! :thumbsd: )

YOL925,

Cheers for the heads up on the service provided by Mecanica Camera, the replacement cost was $120 for leatherette cladding.

$120 - that is a fair price. Happy for you. Enjoy your IIIb (me too has one set, it is one fine camera.)
