Regarding Dmax of Film Scanners

Hi all, I've recently acquired a Pacific Image ProScan 7200 from BHphoto. And I have to say that with the Dmax of 3.8, I am already getting very good results, but looking at the high 4.8 Dmax of the Nikon CoolScan 5000, I'm thinking of upgrading to that soon.

To those seasoned scanners out there, does the 3.8 & 4.8 Dmax make a large difference for modern films such as Ektar 100? I presume there must be some details in the highlights and darks that will be lost due to lower Dmax? I am using Silverfast 8 SE Plus & I have attached some samples;

For example in image 5, there seems to be some halation in the lights on the ceiling of the temple. I used Multi Exposure picture 3, 4 & 5. In image 4 the image was exposed more for the lanturns but the edges between the HDB & colorful paper "branches" seems to have clipped very slightly, is that acceptable performance?

Very good already. You are using Silverfast 8 SE Plus. Heard it is one of the best scanning software.
