recommended printing lab for digital images ?

hi guys

took a wedding shoot (actual day) a while back and now i'm for developing the stuff out.

all my photos are editted myself, for higher colour saturation, some lower colour saturation, some tritone-b&w.. need to print in all sizes 3R, 4R and 8R (is there specialised 3:2 ratio for 8R ? )

need to know which printing lab is recommended.. that will give me the most accurate colour reproduction as to my images.. ? (my monitor and photoshop are both calibrated as accurately as possible..)

i've seen some digital images that get printed out but they either have too ugly colours (far too much saturation) or they turn brighter, or they lose too much saturation..

so which is good.. and probably recommend the name and address of the lab...

Actually I do not want to shoot you, but I believe there is something called www.google.com that can help you look up the definition of 3R, 4R, 5R, 6R and 8R. 8R is 8R, 12 inches x 8 inches, a 3 x 2 ratio. 3 x 2 ratio is 3 x 2 ratio, no specialisation of 3 x 2 ratio for 8R.


For colour and final printout, you have to calibrate your monitor to those of the shops to achieve better results. Just tell the shops not to adjust the colour for you. KT Digital Imaging is able to do that for you. Colour is quite subjective, I do not think I need to ell you that. You have to see to believe.

The 3:2 equivalent for 8R is S8R 12"x8". Basically a 4R x 2 on LxB.

There are a number of digital-capable labs recommended around the CS threads... Konota, Color Lab, DigiPro, Kim Tian, Grace, etc. It is a matter of what you want/prefer. But it is also as important to spell out to the lab you go to the kind of toning/saturation you'd like. Assuming that you've calibrated your monitor/comp with a Frontier profile, then I suggest that you pass a sample set of 10-20 prints to a chosen FDI lab and get them to print without adjustments/correction. This way, you get to tell exactly //what you want// vs //what you get//. And from there any further instructions for the lab to proceed with the remainder. This way, you minimise an unhappy episode for yourself and the lab you go to (which I feel would be unfair to BOTH parties).

Do note that different people prefer different kinds of saturation - some like their prints Kodak-ish (heavily saturated with reds), others may prefer the gentler greens of Fuji (more whites), and yet others will want to go for heavy sharpen (that's where Agfa d-labs like Hotprints come in).
