Hinting that you come back to Sony for future use
When u hear me get a Canon 1-series or Nikon D2-series, means that I'm turning pro or I strike Toto.
When u hear me maintain my current S3Pro, means I'm still happy where I am.
When u hear me turn to A100, means that my life's priority is changing away from photography and travel for something else.

Actually I read some where that you may need ISO 200-800 to get more faint star to show. If the location is not too bright or without bright background, DSLR should be able to do it for a few hours. But you probably need a AC (no sure is it the right term?) power source instead of battery one to last that long.
Alpha 100 has longer battery life, so many be a better choice, but not sure will the higher noise will be an issue or not

but if one is to shoot at a area without ac power socket, then have to rely on the battery, a battery pack should be able to take at least an hour, total of 2 hours including additonal 1 hour of noise reduction.. hmm.. gotto try out
gd thing i got a rc-1000s :bsmilie: now i can use the bulb function on tripod without touching the camera:thumbsup:

can the RC like lock itself during exposure? like those screwy things on manual cams where you press the shutter, then screw to leave the shutter open for long long long preriods.

yaya.. can... u seen the rc before rite on pic, u press down slightly to focus, then press fully to release shutter,
to hold it, do the same as above and slide it downwards to hold the shutter
when you are about to close back the shutter, slide it back up again, then hold it till the moment you are ready to close it.

i haven't seen one still camera that captures stars that well. all can't capture what our eyes see. i saw the most fabulous starlight for a week on the beach in sri lanka, but that remains a memory in my mind's eye ;)
