Hi bros! I own a Voigtlander Bessa R and am looking to get a flash. But I have no idea at all as to what flash to get with the camera. I am looking at a small sized flash. Not those huge ones that go with DSLRs man. Hope you all can help!;):embrass::bsmilie:

Small manual flashes like those that came with the hexar af/rf series will be a good start. Or leica's SF20 and SF24 models will be good too.

Thanks bro! any idea where i can get those leica flashes? lol

and do auto flashes work on the Bessa R?

flash comes in 3 types:

* vintage versions where the duration of the flash is fixed,
aka Manual, you have to calculate the f-stop based on the
estimated distance from you and the subject.

* 2nd generation came with pre-set apertures as well as manual modes,
typically f2.8, f5.6 and f11 would be provided. you simply had to choose the iso on
the flash and the aperture, on your camera, you would set the same aperture as
the flash.

* 3rd generation flash featured TTL, this allowed you to choose the aperture on the lens
and the flash will automatically compensate for the iso and the aperture.

i find the 2nd generation most useful, if you can search for some of the cheap vivitar flash
as well as the leica CF (compact flash). most of these flash are cheap as they do not work
with digital cameras.

hope this helps.

Hey raytoei! thank you so much for your insight. But for my camera (BESSA R), I have seen that it doesnot have TTL Flash. will 2nd gen still be able to be used?

anyway i have also done a search on clubsnap. its difficult to find Leica CF and also Vivitar. so far only one guy has Leica SF20. unsure is that workable for Generation 2. i know my cam doesn support TTL alreayd ... ahha
