If u r using Arca Swiss type ball head with quick release system, r u willing to spend $$$ for the Really Right Stuff QR plate that costs US$50+- (exclude shipping) for a simple plate?

I am thinking of making/manufacturing those RRS type QR plate in Malaysia, similar design but at lower cost. Surface guarantee to be smooth and work perfectly. However, I wonder if there is a market here.

How much r u willing to pay for such a plate?

example of RRS type plate:

Willing to spend US$55+ shipping per plate/lens, yeah you bet. Why? Why bother using Arca style QR and high end heads otherwise?

It's like asking those with Canon L lenses or Nikon 1.4-2.8 lenses if they would put a Tiffen or Corkin filter on their lens. LOL.

There's no way around these custom plates, you use arca style QR, you need a custom plate.

That said, I would gladly pay US$35, but you must be sure it's going to be high quality. Look at the top and bottom, they are beveled or clear through. Of course, it's simpler if you just copy one hehe. As for the market, Singapore is too small. You need to put it up on the web like RRS does and get a world wide audience, especially the fat USA market. SSR is also a mini operation, don't even have online ordering, they are that primitive.

Thanks Lush. I understand that the market for arca swiss type of custom plate is small here in Asia, thus I am thinking of expanding the plate option to Manfrotto type. The top part will still be custom made (fit certain lenses or camera), and bottom part is Manfrotto style.

I will try make a few plates for myself (my cameras) first, and I think the price to sell would be at around RM70-80. Profit...u bet is small...can't depend on it to survive... ;p

think if u have a prototype of the finsihed product to show more pple will be interseted, esp if the prices are low. I for one would be interested in the manfrotto style plates, especially if its an anti-twist version for the D100 :P

Since you have the lubang, how about making the 55-55 adaptor for Fuji S602Z. I believe it's much easier to produce and caters for a larger market.

I can't make or design various plates at the moment because I need to have the specific camera to measure and study before coming out with a design. Since the plate is going to be custom make for a specific body ONLY, thus dimension/shape of the body is important. Currently I have only Nikon FM2, F3 and F60 in hand. Thus I can only design and make plates for these camera.

FM2 = FE2 = FM3A

F60 = F80 = F70

Heh you may wish to consider making plates for the higher end bodies, D1x, D1h, F4, F5, and perhaps F100 and D100, cos these are the pple who are likely to have enough $$$ and enough inclination or level of seriousness to want to buy your plates :P Bigger market for u oso.

CHeers!

in fact i ask my supplier to make me cut me arch qr general plate out of stainless steel n it cost me nothing . it work great n free :D (thinkin askin him to do more for me)

seriously i m thinkin to mold the plate out of alumi. may be we can join hand n work together to redue our risk n investment .
