I am looking for a replacement zoom lens for my 600si, and mainly looking at the 24~100mm zoom range. With a budget of around 500, I have narrowed my choice to the minolta 24-105 D with cost around 550 (from the lens thread)

1. Would the lens cause shadowing if i use the built-in flash? If so would it appear throughout the zoom range or only when the lens extend till a certain limit?

2. Given my budget, are there any other choices (3rd party)? My main criteria is the WA of 24mm. The top range of the zoom is arbitrary, but shd at least be 70mm. Hopefully it should also be light. I am only a hobbyist and any lens which is optically comparable to the KIT lens is accceptable ;)

3. I have seen that there is a sigma 24-70 at only around 200?? is it still available and any comments on it?

appreciate any feedback
:)

If I was not mistaken, 2 weeks back there seem to be a shortage of Minolta Lens especially in the range 24-85 and 24-105. Hope they have restocked.

The lens should not give you shadow. if you have previously used the 28-80 or 35-80 or similar range lens and the build in flash does not cause a shadow then you are ok. If you are still unsure, why not borrow the lens from a fellow clubsnapper or the shop (including minolta showroom at funan). load a roll and shoot. develop and you will know.

no comments on sigma lens. if really tight perhaps you can look at the resale market.

Hope it helps.:rbounce:

Hiee...

I personally owned the 24-70mm before.....and i think its a great lens. I got the one without the IF (Internal focus). The newer 24-70.mm is Internal Focus....i think...and it spots a FLOWER HOOD...

Onr thing to take note is that the older lens may not support newer bodies....hence require a CHIP upgrade.

I got mine upgraded at SIGMA agent here for free.

As compared to the current Minolta 24-85 that i'm using now...the 24-70...is a littel plasticky and its very light....

Image wise is good...

As for the shadow dues to build in flash....i think....you need to try out....

Sulhan

I have gotten a equote frm ms color for the 24-85 for $577. seems like a good deal. however they dun have the 24-105 which i had hope is cheaper.

Let me know if you want to try the lens out....can bring to seed...

i think my 600si is not tat new anymore... :p

mscolor dun have the 24-105 in stock. so well... given the minolta 24-85 vs your old sigma 24-70, how much better is the minolta in terms of, built quality, ruggedness, AF speed and optical quality => end results?

Does the lack of 'D' make much of a difference for the 24-85?

given the price of the sigma, it is an attractive options coz the price of the 24-85 is sufficient to get me the sigma and a 3600hs!
