hey guys, i've done the battery thing like suggested in one of the threads and when i press the check battery button, the area with the film number lights up..however, when i half press the trigger, the low/over button doesn't light up at all...now i know it's not supposed to light up if the exposure is sufficient..however, it doesn't light even under extremely low light conditions..anyone knows what's wrong with it?

Did you wind it? The light doesnt come up if its not cocked.

what battery combination are u using? if the voltage is lower then the mercury battery its supposed to use the light may not light up. I'm using the CR123 + 2 LR44 combination...fine for me.. only other reason I can think of is the metering is screwed.

i'm using the same battery combi as you...where can i go to get the metering checked? camera hospital?

I had mine CLAed at Cam X. Look for Nic. He's quite a guy chap :)

thanks man...where's Cam X? and uh..don't swing that way towards nic even though he's a guy chap..i'm a guy too :) hahah..kidding..thanks again

camx is at peninsula...same floor as TCW...its in frt of the kopitiam.

btw...you can use A23 batts, which is alraedy 12V for the gtn or gsn.
remember, you'd need a spring.

thanks khairi... will probably bring the cam there to check out whether it's a problem with the camera's metering or just insufficient power though :)

The GSN may have to have the "pad of death replaced". They are almost always trashed due to age. That will keep the metering system from operating correctly.
A PX28 battery is a perfect one for the Electros. I would not use a 12V battery though. It throws off the meter and can damage the electric coil in the shutter.

thanks man..would removing the "pad of death" require me any film to be taken out? i've got a roll of black and white inside and it's no where near to being complete

oops...ya man...shouldnt use the A23...paiseh....wrong info...

At the very least, the top has to come off. That is the hard way to replace one. I take the lens plate out to do them. For me it is easier and no slip ups. ;)

right, so now my yashica is with nic at cam x... eagerly await for its return next week... said he would zhng it a bit to make the focusing abit better, rather than using the black tape method
