Question about Leica Screw Mount to M adapters for older lenses with infinity locks

I need to purchase one of these to go with my 50mm F3.5 Nickel 1932 Elmar. However upon reading Voigtlander's accessories page, I find that there are two types. One that allows for bar coding (Type II), and another (Type I) that does not but is needed to fit older lenses that have infinity locks like mine. The Type II version will not mount on the older lenses with infinity locks it seems. I need the Type I version....

My question is;

As this is just a simple milled part, there are many FAR cheaper and easier to source alternatives to this US$69 Voigtlander alternative (which in itself needs to be specially sourced or pre ordered). Will I have mounting issues from these generic adapters? I know I can probably mill/dremel any adapter to accommodate the infinity lock but I would rather not do any tinkering Does anyone with vintage screw mount lenses like mine know if this is an issue or where I can possibly purchase one of these in Singapore or Malaysia? Chiif in Singapore who is the dealer for Singapore and Malaysia does not have any in stock. Neither does YL in Malaysia.... but I was hoping perhaps someone knows of an generic alternative that fits that I can find around here? (without the weeks long wait!)

Thanks in advance for the input!

Are u using on a film body or digital? What camera? Coding is more for digital m if im not wrong.

Being a great fan of Elmar 5cm myself, I can certainly share your anxiety. You are right about Type I being the right ring to use for Elmar.

From my experience, there are indeed slight difference in tolerance/thickness among the original Leitz adapter and other made (cosina, kipon, etc) which can translate to overshooting infinity (or not reaching infinity). However, as Elmar is a 3.5 lens which is much more forgiving for such focusing variations, I would say just go for the eBay US$8.50 one (buy two, for higher chance of getting a useable one). If both don't work, PM me. I can help.

$8.50 Type I L-M Ring
