Question about cross-processing film

Hi everybody, I am interested in trying out cross-processing for film but I am not sure about a couple of stuff and I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I understand Fotohub does cross-processing but only E-6 to C-41. Is there anywhere else that does cross-processing for C-41 using E-6? I have been searching all over but I can't seem to get a direct answer. Thank you very much for your time. = )

Usually people X pro slides to negs right? What is the effect you can achieve with Negs to Slides Xpro? Please show.

hmm usually labs only offer cross process slides to negs as c-41 is more accessable.. when the labs do cross processing, the chemicals are bound to get contaminated in some way that may not be too good for the longevity of the chemicals in there.. But i think C-41 chemicals still quite economical so they can afford to do it just before they are about to refresh their chemicals. E-6 chemicals and developing is much harder to come by hence i think thats why they don't do it. But I think people would be interested in it is because when u cross process negs in E-6, you get a positive image but the orange film base will still be present. Its not a very popular technique as the orange cast is quite hard to remove from the image..

developing from c-41 to e6 tend to be pricer and harder hence most(or all) the labs in singapore stop doing it for the mass.

now how i wish there are places for slides bnw..

Hi CooperS: Yes, I know the norm is to cross process slides to negatives. I do not have any photos to show at the moment so I am not too sure how it might turn out. I just wish to try and see how it would turn out if negatives are cross processed to slides. Afterall, isn't photography about experimenting and not about following a fixed set of rules? I might not, and probably will not, be like the great artists and great photographers but this is just a personal experiment to try and push the envelope, although it might not be avant-garde, it's all about having fun, no? I appreciate your concern with regard to this though. Thank you. = )

Hi kgston: Thanks for the tip and information. Yeah I have read about different films producing different cast and I think it would be pretty interesting to see a cast complementing the topic in a photo, although good or not is pretty much subjective. Lol. I approached a few shops which do have the cross-processing service but seems like they are pretty much reluctant to cross-process a negative to slide. Anyways, thanks a lot again for explaining to me about the process. There's too much info on the web and it can get quite mind-boggling at times but your explanation really helped. Thank you. = )

Hi shunzi: I guess the cost is the reason why they don't do it, maybe demand too? Processing black & white slides, you mean like the DR5 process for Agfascala? I have seen photos from black & white slides and I was blown away. There are not many places in the world that do it anymore, although I know there's a lab in Denver that specialises in it. Can't remember their website. The cost of processing, plus shipping from Singapore to USA and back, is a big turnoff though. = )

You can process B/W slides using the instructions from the Ilford website... But you'll have to find all the chemicals on the list... I'm still on my quest to gather all the chemicals needed... I seriously hope there is a big XP reward at the end of the quest.. hehe:)

Haha the instructions are way beyond my understanding at my level, it flew over my head when I was reading it. I hope it turns out great for you and please do post the pictures when you have processed it, I think it will be great. = )

I cross-processed my own using Tetenal C-41 on Kodak Elitechrome 100.

One discovery. When I use back the chemical to develop back to negative somehow the colour output is a tad saturated. I am satisfied.

Currently I am on my quest to process redscale after one of my last weekend shooting trip....hopefully this weekend...using the same chemical. Lets see how it goes :)
