Purchase of Camera Equipment in Japan (Tokyo)

Hi guys,

will be headed to Tokyo in a few days. looking to acquire some new equipment..

most interested in an SB900, a film slr and possibly a wideangle lens.

Are there any shops that are recommended?

Would it be cheaper to purchase stuff in Japan than in Singapore?

I found a site with some prices, and their SB900 price was quite abit more than what we have here in Singapore. The price listed had no before/after tax indication. so im not too sure if it was the tax that caused it to seem so expensive.

Any input would be great!

I was in tokyo last year and found that their camera stuff are generally more expensive compared to Sg price. even other electronic stuff are also more ex than Sg. Only reason I'll buy there is if the model is exclusive to Jap and not available else where.

I think it's probably better to get those exotic old manual stuff in tokyo.
there are lots in good condition and good price, compared to what u can find locally.

I have shopped at Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara - huge store with at least one whole level devoted to cameras. Its a chain store but this is probably the biggest imho

Prices of Cam Stuff in JP are relatively more expensive.
Can see whether u can pick up any nice 2nd hand equipment in Akihabara

erm.... New stuff there's around 10-20% cheaper in singapore IF you know where to look. But do keep the warranty issue in mind. (varies from manufacturer to manufacturer)

Used stuff on the other hand's around 30-40% cheaper than the prices asked HERE on clubsnap. (i kid you not.) PLUS the fact that it's fully serviced, and with a 6-12 month warranty, should you decide to return there again.

Places i'm talking about are: fujiya camera (at nakano) and map camera, for the more exotic stuff.

A good price comparison, 5d classic mint with everything, sub 500 actuations = 1350-1400ish SGD.
