Hello,

I have 1 unit, but somehow I feel that the metering seems off.

Is there someone who has been using this camera for quite a while...and familiar with the functions?
I would like to meet up with you (at your convenience time/location) of course, and seek your 2nd opinion.
This camera was collected at a camera shop after servicing some time back, and I have not fired a single shot since then.

Anyone dont mind meeting me and help?
Cant pay you anything...coffee most definitely no problem. :)

PM me.

is there anyone who is able to help?
wont take up much time..just like to show this camera to someone who is good with it.
:)

i wish to sell this unit, so just want to make sure it is 100% working before doing so.

what help do you need? I'm not very proficient with the camera but i would advise you spend some money and shoot some slides with it. will definitely point out any errors in metering.

Other than that, if you have some specific questions, do ask them here and we shall try to help :)

And its a great camera, I love it to bits. Amazing lens :)

cos' the red and yellow arrows dont seem to work the way i thought i will be...
when i turn the aperture, it doesnt really change from one color to another.

i tried it indoor and outdoor...somehow, it should..but didnt

try varying the strength when you apply the half press, sometimes the electrical contacts don't work as well liao.

I have read the red arrow means too much light...or overexposed..and i tried to turn the aperture ring, to even f16. it is still red arrow...
Ok...maybe the place is just too bright..even for f16...so i swtich to a darker spot and get metering....and sometimes, still the same...

just thought it is strange..

hopefully, it is not the camera but my incapability to understand it...
anyone wanna take alook during lunch time? i can try to bring it down just to show you for 5mins???

hmm that is strange. take it to a really dark place with no lights and then try. if it still lights red then i guess the metering is gone. :(

Hi,

I would check and make sure that the battery contacts are clean. If you haven't got an adapter for the battery, it's easy to make yourself one as poor battery connection might make the metering go out of whack.

Hope it helps.

cheers,
dw

if i am not wrong , (correct me if i am wrong)
if theres not battery or the battery fails, the shutter speed is only going to stay at 1/500.

i do find my yahsica have some weird exposure problems too,
someone told me that it might be the problem of the "pod"

To Des: The man here writing ;) I am staring at the Nikon Rangefinder book just across the room now ;) sincere apologies and we must really find the time to meet up.

To: Paapoopa: You are right on the 1/500 speed if no battery is included.

All in all, if your Yashica Electro 35 sounds like a Leica, then something is very wrong ;) That clunk is unmistakable and you will not only notice it but also feel it. Assuming there is a clunk sound, but the metering still weird, the main and primary reason is the pad has worn off substantially and only a little bit of it remains on the rod. Thus giving a clunk sound but still inaccurate reading.

Another thing to check is the contacts behind the whole battery compartment. If metering is intermittent, you will likely have an old leak (from the now banned Mercury batteries) and dried up staining the contact points and wiring.

Have seen many minty Yashica Electro 35, some like totally unused and yet the PAD has deteriorated badly, thus giving problems to the metering and electronics issue.

if the pad is worn off, where and i get it fixed? and how much usually will it cost?

If just the POD itself, should be $80. But a few will insist on the whole package of servicing. After all, it will be quite silly if after opening up the camera body all the way to the dorsal aorta, and you don't do a complete servicing. Most of the shops here at Peninsula would be glad to do your business ;)

wow, seems that will cost as much as the camera itself than
